Frankly, as a Villan I couldn't care less what Liverpool fans feel about the transfer ... but ... I do think comparing Benteke to Carroll is dumb. He's a proven player not just in the EPL (half a goal per game over three full seasons and a patch of injuries), but also Internationally for Belgium (he's been their first choice striker for 3 years now) and for Genk as a 19 year old. He's not some guy who came out of nowhere with a big year and then cashed in. Seriously. A lot of those people just need to watch somebody other than their own club and country every so often.

Did you over pay? God I hope so. But class costs money and Benteke's a class striker.

I think the anti-Benteke concern is that some see him as one-dimensional, and others see him as too inconsistent. Others, like me, see someone who's multi-dimensional (moreso than the others realize) and who's young and growing into greater consistency. I love that he's our player and look forward to many 15-20 goal seasons for us. :)

He's a different player when he's motivated and healthy than when he's not. You can use him as a target man as he will win any ball player anywhere near him in the air, but he's also skillful enough to fit in perfectly with a more ground based attack.

Manchester United have signed Argentina goalkeeper Sergio Romero as a result of the uncertainty over David De Gea.

Romero was a free agent after leaving Sampdoria and will replace back-up keeper Victor Valdes, who has been told he can leave by boss Louis Van Gaal.

Think the 2nd sentence (back-up) makes more sense than worry about De Gea.

Aston Villa have signed Ghana striker Jordan Ayew on a five-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old, who joins from Lorient in France's Ligue 1, helped his country to second place in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Netherlands winger Ibrahim Afellay is set to become the fourth former Barcelona player at Stoke City.

The 29-year-old free agent is having a medical at the Britannia Stadium after ending his four-and-a-half-year stay at the Nou Camp.

Aston Villa have agreed a deal to sign Cordoba defender Jose Angel Crespo, the Spanish club have revealed.

Ugh, Afellay was yet another of our promising dutch youngsters who spent his formative years buried at a giant club. Young players really should be cautioned about making too big of a jump early in their career. The money in the short term might be better, but it could really hurt your ability to make money in the long term.

Wojciech Szczesny is off to Roma on a season long loan. I guess that leaves Ospina as the backup by default.

Adebayor can be a clinical finisher, but otherwise he tracks back about as fast as an arthritic sloth.

Striker Rickie Lambert has joined West Brom from Liverpool for an undisclosed fee on a two-year deal

He will get goals for West Brom imo.

Aston Villa have completed the signings of Blackburn striker Rudy Gestede and Nantes midfielder Jordan Veretout.

Always a worry when you sell a top striker and try to replace him with 3 or 4 average ones.

Manchester City forward Stevan Jovetic has joined Serie A side Inter Milan, however both clubs have reported the terms of the deal differently.

I know it was only pre-season, but bagging two hours after signing a contract is pretty impressive.

OTOH, if Christian Benteke scores goals like the one he scored in our final pre-season match today, I'll be more than happy to have replaced the former with the latter. ;)
