Summer 2015 Transfer Thread

Earlier Real Madrid tried to lay the blame at Uniteds door but their timeline didn't seem to hold water imo.

Now United have released the following

Manchester United notes Real Madrid’s statement on the attempt to sign David De Gea and sell Navas to Manchester United. The Club feels compelled to provide some clarification with the following facts.

• Manchester United did not seek contact from Real Madrid for the sale of David. David is a key member of our squad and the club’s preference was not to sell.

• No offer was received for David until yesterday.

• At lunchtime yesterday, Real Madrid made its first offer to buy David. A deal was agreed between the clubs, which included Navas being transferred to Old Trafford. The deals were dependent on each other.

• In the last several hours of the process, with Navas at the Real Madrid training ground, Real Madrid were controlling the documentation processes of David, Navas and Real Madrid. Manchester United was in control only of the documentation of Manchester United.

• Manchester United sent transfer documents for both players to Real Madrid at 2042 BST. David’s documentation was returned by Real Madrid to Manchester United without the signatory page at 2232 BST.

• At 22:40 BST, minutes before the deadline, major changes to the documentation came through to Manchester United which immediately put the deals at risk.

• Only at 2255 BST were the documents that are needed to cancel David’s contract received by Manchester United from Real Madrid.

• At this point Navas’ documentation was still not returned by Real Madrid.

• At 2258 BST, the transfer agreement was sent back by Manchester United, uploaded onto TMS and accepted – all before the deadline.

• It is our understanding that the deals couldn’t happen because:

- Real Madrid didn’t upload David’s documents onto TMS in time (Manchester United did)

- Real Madrid didn’t upload David’s documents to the Spanish league in time, per reports it seems some 28 minutes after the deadline

• The fact that Manchester United filed the papers on time was acknowledged by the Football Association, who offered to support that claim in any discussions with FIFA. The Club offered this assistance, as well as its own timestamped documents to Real Madrid but they have chosen not to go down this route.

Manchester United acts appropriately and efficiently in its transfer dealings. The Club is delighted that its fan-favourite double Player of the Year, David de Gea, remains a Manchester United player.

If I was de Gea I would be pretty hacked off at Real at this point, why the heck did they wait till the last day to make their first offer? And why did they totally botch the paperwork from their end?

It makes you wonder whether Madrid ever wanted to actually do this deal this summer. Maybe they always wanted to wait to get him on a free next summer but had talked themselves into a corner with De Gea and felt they had to make it appear they tried then try and dump the blame on United for it not going through.

A ... losing Van Dijk was pretty much the price for losing out on Champions League group play for Celtic. Dammit. He'll make a good one for Southampton though. He's a quality defender and very athletic.

B ... kind of glad that Villa backed away from the aging striker buffet if I'm honest. As much as they need a proven finisher I have serious doubts that Adebeyor or Berbatov would have accomplished anything other than cashing bank drafts.

C ... Lescott? OK. Hope he finds some form, but we need another CB in the mix since Okore can't seem to stay healthy. And it allowed them to remove the temptation/frustration that is Nathan Baker by loaning him out to the Cherries. That guy's never going to come good ... at least not for Villa.

I bet this is exactly the case. They've done it before ... or at least screwed around and unsettled a solid player to the point that the price came down a year or so later. All the effs they give at Real would fit in a thimble.
 
ESPNFC has rated all 20 Premier League teams performance in the transfer window. In their view, Man City get an A+ and were the clear winners.

A+ - Man City
A- - Crystal Palace, Leicester, Stoke
B+ - Liverpool, Bournemouth
B - West Brom
B- - Watford, Newcastle
C+ - Everton, Southampton
C - Chelsea, Aston Villa, West Ham, Sunderland
C- - Arsenal (the only team in any of the top 5 leagues that didn't sign an outfield player)
D - Man U (and that's after the relatively early and well regarded signings of Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin), Spurs
D- - Norwich

Arsenal only signed Cech, no other team in the EPL made less than 5 signings this summer.

Highest Season Ticket prices in the league...... not sure I would be pleased if I was a supporter to see them spend just £10mill this summer.

You aren't wrong about that. It looks like I'm going to be in London for Relegation Sunday and Villa are closing out at the Emirates so I checked pricing. Holy crap. Pretty much triple what I've paid for Celtic and Villa home matches in the past. I'll probably still shell out, but jeez guys. No wonder your fans moan about the lack of investment.
 
I'm staying away from the Spurs board meltdown for a month or two. This travesty of a transfer window left so many key issues unresolved, even with all of the moves that were made, it's going to be a real mess. Good news is they probably won't have to waste their time in Europe next year. Kiss Hugo Lloris goodbye in the January window.
 
I dunno. Spurs generally do too much business too late in the window and then take until November to get their mess together. This roster doesn't seem all that short of enough talent to bubble along in their usual place in the table. They just got off to a slow start offensively. I bet they'll come around sooner staying pat than they would have done by bringing in four guys in a week.

Maybe that's just me ...
 
All that is true, but they're looking at either putting a lot of square pegs in a round striker hole, or running Kane into the ground, and nobody wants to do that. Getting a striker was the one thing they HAD to get done, and Levy dallied too long thinking he had Berahino in the bag.

Look ... as difficult as Adebayor is, why they left him off of the roster is beyond me when they are only carrying one other true striker. Surely you could at least get some Cup action from the guy?

When all the stuff about his mother putting a voodoo hex on him came out, he pretty much lost all his teammates. If you don't know about it, google "adebayor voodoo" for some entertaining reading - at least it's entertaining when it involves a player not on your team.

Yeah ... it's classic stuff, and thus the comment "as difficult as he is." Baggage is baggage ... the guy can play the position and you have virtually no other depth options.
 
Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has signed a new-four year contract with the club.

The 24-year-old Spain international almost joined Real Madrid on transfer deadline day, but the necessary paperwork was not submitted in time.

De Gea's previous contract was set to expire next summer, while his new deal includes an option for a further year.

"I'm looking forward to putting a difficult summer behind me and working hard," said De Gea.

So either there is a buyout clause in that deal or De Gea saw the paperwork and decided that it was Real Madrid that screwed things up so now he doesn't want to go there.
