Summer 2025 Transfer Thread

Alexander Isak to Liverpool for a record. £130 million.

Antony from Man U to Real Betis for €25 million. It includes a 50% sell on fee. He played the last half of last season there on loan. Man U is taking a bath they signed him for €95 million in 2022.

Gianluigi Donnarumma looks to be headed to Man City. He’s fallen out of favor at PSG. If he does sign for City, Ederson is off to Fenerbahce for €14 million

Looks like Isak coming in at Liverpool freed them up to move Harvey Elliott to Villa. It's supposed to be a loan with an obligation to buy next summer, to avoid FFP issues for Villa. He'd more or less be a like for like replacement for Ramsay, albeit with a higher ceiling. Villa also are supposedly bringing in Sancho on loan from Man United ... not as happy with that but God knows they need a winger and Emery has breathed new life into worse.

Someone needs to explain Donna to Man City for me. I don't think you could find a worse fit for a goalie for a system and also, I feel like an insane person shouting into the void that he's a shockingly below average goalkeeper who might be the most overrated player ever.

Generally happy about Harvey Elliot coming and I have the exact appropriate level of apathy toward Sancho. Also, now it's looking like the Martinez to Man U is falling apart and now Gala is an option and that he's just been making a stink about wanting to go?? I honestly don't completely know how I feel about all this, because it seems like most likely the team told him at the end of last season he was going to be moved for financial reasons (we all saw him cry) and then that didn't end up happening and Ramsey got moved instead. Did the team decide that it still made financial sense to move his wages and they were happy enough with Bizot? Maybe. Who knows. Dibu has kept his mouth shut, so it's all just speculation and spin. I just want the saga to be over with at this point.

Or not
It’s back on. Bayern is paying a £16.5 million loan fee with an obligation to by set at £65 million

Guehi to Liverpool may not happen per David Ornstein.

US International Yunas Musah to Atalanta from AC Milan.

Man City sending Ilkay Gundogan to Galatasaray? They’re also sending defender Manuel Akanji to Inter on a season long loan for €2 million with a €15 million obligation to buy if he plays in more than half their matches and Inter win the Scudetto.

Arsenal sending Sambi Lokonga to Bundesliga side Hamburger. Teammate Fabio Vieira may join him but on a loan deal. They’re also sending Reiss Nelson to Brentford.

Looks like a done deal, for a €30 million fee. Ederson is headed to Fenerbahce, but the Turkish window doesn’t close until September 12, so they still have time to make that deal.

I do like Elliott's fit. Again, he's got a very similar tool kit to Ramsey who they have missed sorely. Sancho? Yeah, if he can help on that right wing then cool. If not, then at least they won't be on the hook for him past this season. At least it would be a move. And God knows they need to shake some crap up.

One thing I will say about Martinez ... this team has looked spooked and unsettled since the season started. They actually looked pretty good in pre season, so something has happened. If Martinez decided to re-start his argument to leave about time they were preparing for Game 1, that would explain what has them looking like a Championship side. He's a leader on that team and if the others thought he had put his demands to leave aside only to have him rekindle that fire, then .. .yeah. He can eff off. If not, then shup up and play.

Chelsea are in advanced talks to sign US international Alyssa Thompson from Angel City. It appears the deal will also break the $1 million mark, the 3rd deal this summer to do so. The transfer window in the Women’s Super League doesn’t close until Thursday. She’d also be the 3rd Angel City player lost to the WSL this summer with Alanna Kennedy and Katie Zelem joining newly promoted London City earlier in the window. Michele Kang is the majority owner of London City; she’s also the majority owner of the Washington Spirit and OL Lyonnes. She also holds a minority share of men’s side Olympique Lyonnais and in June was named President of the club and chairperson of their owner Eagle Football.

Chelsea defender Ben Chillwell to Chelsea sister club Strasbourg. He’s the 6th player to move there from Chelsea this window, 3 on loan, 3 permanent moves. He spent last season on loan at Crystal Palace.

Arsenal sign defender Piero Hincapie from Leverkusen on a season long loan with an option to buy. But he’s already signed a 5 year contract at the Emirates, so next summer is a done deal. The total package is €52 million with a 10% sell on fee. That will also mean Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior can move to Porto for €25 million that could go to €27 million.
Hincapie did indeed sign with Arsenal for the indicated amount. But Kiwior to Porto is a season long loan, not a permanent move.

How does Palace, who's known about the Guehi move for months, not have a replacement lined up? Not the best business, and now they'll lose him on a free in the summer.
Only way I can see them getting something for him in January is to create a false bidding war. Even then, I'll be surprised if, in January, they get the €25M we initially offered.

I think they've made the decision that having him in the squad is more valuable than whatever money they can get for him. They made that gamble last season and I think they're pretty happy with the results.

Also, you're sounding pretty damn greedy as a Liverpool fan trying to say this. Be happy with all the carnage you've already caused this window.

Very happy to land Isak finally, and glad Harvey is staying in England with Villa. Hope he shines for the Villans.
Surprised Emi hasn't moved; hope that works out for Villa fans. Donnarumma though: how can a guy who's notoriously not good with his feet play in that side? Makes no sense.

The real Donnarumma thing is that he's also not that good with his hands. Stats are a thing that exist and by all metrics, he's crap. On the other hand, there is no goalkeeper on earth that is better at making routine saves look like worldies, so I guess that's something???

Liverpool is going to lose Konate on a free since he won't sign his deal and they couldn't move him for a reasonable price. I like Joe Gomez but he just can't stay healthy. So the centre back position is somewhat thin.
And carnage seems a bit dramatic. 😁

Arsenal sent Oleksandr Zinchenko to Nottingham Forest on a season long loan. As usual, Arsenal did not get much from player departures. Zinchenko, Nelson, Kiwior, Vieira and Hein all left on loan. Tierney and Tomiyasu had their contracts terminated. Jorginho and Thomas Partey were out of contract. Arsenal’s net spend this window is estimated at £254 million, £80 million more than next highest Man U. Liverpool spent £565 million in fees this summer but their net spending is only £110 million, only the 7th highest in the league.

And to be fair, Liverpool had been pretty quiet in the market for the last few years. They built up a war chest and used it, and maybe more importantly they got good returns on the players they moved out. Normal stuff from where I sit, even if it annoys me that my team's ambitions are getting squashed.

Chelsea did sign Alyssa Thompson for just under £1 million. Angel City controlling owner Alexis Ohanian had taken an estimated 8-10% stake in Chelsea women in May for £20 million.

The window is still open in Turkey and Trabzonspor have reached verbal agreement with Man U to sign keeper Andre Onana on loan. Onana hasn’t agreed to go yet though.
