Summer 2025 Transfer Thread

Brentfird signed Jordan Henderson on a free. He left Liverpool for Al Ettifaq in 2023 but only stayed 6 months. He's been at Ajax since then.

But all the talk this week, from what I've read, has been about the "intertwined" fates of Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike. First Liverpool were offering a massive amount (somewhere between £130m and £140m). Then Newcastle were supposedly set to be in for Ekitike to partner (replace?) Isak at about £70m or so. But when Newcastle reportedly underlined their stance from earlier this year about extending, and not selling, Isak, Liverpool submitted a bid for Ekitike for about £80m. They are reportedly "close" to striking that deal. So, it appears Isak is staying. But who knows for sure?
For a club that didn't have any European football last year, and only once in the last 10+, FFP rules (or whatever they're called) will make paying for Elanga, Isak and any other potential signing difficult. Selling Isak would help them sign others. So who knows what lays in store for them?

After weeks of speculation and back and forth, Bryan Mbeumo is leaving Brentford for Man U. The fee is an initial £65 million to be paid in 4 installments with a max of £6 million in bonuses.

Another reminder of just how frustrating it is to see your club hamstrung by FFP regs (and even fined for failure to comply) while Newcastle and others just trod all over the place doing whatever. Meanwhile Villa REALLY need to sell a home grown guy again to have any room to maneuver this summer ... or even to keep a couple of mainstay players.

I'm a little frustrated by the Onana signing last year considering our current position. I do like Onana a lot, but 50 mil for someone who wasn't going to be first choice once Kamara returned just seems short sighted.

After so many years of being in the dark ages for Villa, it feels bad complaining about things, but I definitely have some growing concerns. I feel like Emery might have a little too much power and while the manager should be involved in transfers for sure, they really shouldn't have too much say in it. He seems to make quick decisions on players and just all of a sudden be out on a player. I do also think he's not that great at dealing with people. He's spectacular with tactics, but his man management is lacking for sure.

Honestly, I think it was Thielemans who threw the wrench into that signing. I think Emery saw Onana combining with Kamara in a dynamic two man deep pivot where both MFers could roam forward, depending on the scenario. Then Thielemans went and re-discovered his passing skills and made himself indispensable. But it's a textbook example of just how careful you have to be if you don't have 15 years worth of UCL money to prop up your buying. Unless of course, you just want to brazen it out and dare them to stop you.

Noni Madueke to Arsenal from Chelsea is complete. Arsenal will pay an initial £48.5 million, rising to £52 million with add-ons. Hopefully, he fares better than some of the more recent players that made the move from West to North London. David Luiz, Willian, Raheem Sterling…blech. Petr Cech worked out although he lost his starting spot to Bernd Leno in his last season.

But that was my point, above: Liverpool's spending has them well within PSR because of previous windows' spending (mostly, a lack thereof). Winning the league (remember, every league position helps) and playing in Europe helps. As does the new kit deal they signed with Adidas. And the expected sales of Nunez and perhaps Diaz would help even more balancing those numbers. Newcastle doesn't have that luxury. That's why there was speculation they would consider an Isak sale, to fund other purchses. PSR affects them, too.
As for me, the rumours of Ekitike and Rodrygo together excite me more than Isak alone, as much as I love Isak. Especially if we lose Diaz.

West Ham bring in Kyle Walker-Peters on a free after five-and-a-half seasons with Southampton. Was a time I thought he was going to amount to more than he has.

Sean Longstaff has left St. James to head to Elland. Heard the rumours but didn't think they were going to come to fruition, boyhood club and all.

Granit Xhaka looks set to be heading back to the Premier League, agreeing personal terms with Sunderland and urging Bayer Leverkusen to wrap up the transfer fee discussions quickly.

The Viktor Gyokeres transfer to Arsenal is on the verge of completion. Arsenal and Sporting Lisbon have agreed in principle on a €63.t million fee with €10 million in bonuses. There are still discussions over the nature and achievability Of the bonuses.

In an under the radar move, Arsenal signed center back Christhian Mosquera from Valencia. The transfer hasn’t been announced by either club, but he joined Arsenal in Singapore on their preseason tour.
