I think he does believe he might be able to create a financial system outside of any government, and with that eventually a rules and information system completely independant of government as well. and change the world. That was probably what he originally was dreaming about with paypal.

I don't even hate the idea, though i doubt it would work or even be good.

i just wish he hadn't destroyed twitter to do it.

Yeah, when I look at the the problems inherent to our banking system, putting half of a new system under the control of one guy never makes my list of potential fixes.

But he's a fucking megalomaniac, so it makes perfect sense to him as long as he's the guy.
 
He might want a more modest goal, something like a US version of China’s WeChat where one can use the app to pay bills, order goods and transfer money to other users,

Then he should have build one. Why kill an established app?

that’s exactly what he wants.

Like most tech “innovations” lately, he wants to put a tiny top hat on someone else’s existing product, and market it as his own unique trailblazing idea.
 
Spotify's one service I don't feel ripped off by. The music access is insane and I'm using it like 16 hours a day.
