Tech Thread

The carnage has brought its PE down to a not insane number, though it could easily halve from here and be totally justified, even without his antics.

Could do a lot more than halve imo. I know I'm generally down on Elon, but Tesla has big head winds coming. A P/E of 56 is pretty fookin massive. Toyota's is 10 and they sold 10x as many vehicles as Tesla did. But Tesla's market cap is almost 3x larger than Toyota's.

When the investment world figures out that Tesla actually is just an automaker (an automaker with a shit quality and safety record).....look out below.

Yup, agree on all fronts. The 50+ PE is concerning, but their growth rate is still pretty good. Yet that 18ish PE that we’ve seen lots of the other names fall to is certainly a strong possibility given the shitstorm around fearless leader, and if I had to bet on one result, I’d bet on it to drop to that level rather than rebound significantly higher.

Ironic reminder — Musk thinks advertising is mostly useless; he famously boasted Tesla never spent a dime on it.

He does of course love free publicity (which he is a zen master at) and now he’s the victim of it — all these companies are getting free publicity by stating “we at company XYZ have decided to stop advertising on twitter”

I think he subscribes to the theory that there’s no such thing as bad publicity. Not looking good at the moment.

I've never quite understood that theory. Adolf Hitler has received more publicity than any human in history...ended poorly.
