Tech Thread

yeah i have the same dream but.....battery tech is moving so fast that I would wait until the last second before deciding.

Yeah, enphase is just the winner right now imo. I'm assuming someone else will have something else better/higher capacity/cheaper/more efficient by then. Their design being modular is a big selling feature imo. I want to be able to add to the setup over time for a few reasons. Both roof panels and batteries, maybe even a small wind turbine eventually.

- One of them is seriously that crypto mining with free electricity is basically creating free money out of thin air
- Mexico is mexico, I want to be able to charge electric batteries for people in a pinch if power is knocked out due to hurricane, earthquake, etc.

location is wide open. but a self sustaining house would be tres cool.
my friend does this in NB, about 30 mins outside of Fredericton. it's pretty fucking epic.

keeps moving more and more towards complete self-sustainability. just got laying hens, pig is next.

massive garden that keeps expanding every year. about a dozen apple trees. more wild blueberries than any human can pick. same with cranberries.

wood lot for wood stove fuel.

on a well, septic tank. solar power with a propane back up.

I can fuck with the gardens, fruit trees are definitely part of the plan (avocado, mango, & citrus grow native). But imo in 2024 there's no excuse for a wood stove. Dangerous, inefficient, terrible for particle emissions, air quality. If you're self sufficient electrically, there's almost no excuse to not install a heat pump. The animals are a bit homestead-ish for me as well. If you're not ditching meat (I'm not, fuck that), 90%+ of the problems with meat consumption are factory farming issues. Buy local and you're most of the way home to sustainability.
