Tech Thread

I've still yet to see (m)any experts in the field who think that LLM's are a viable pathway to AGI, and none whose future net worth aren't tied to LLM's being a viable pathway.

*edit* after watching more of the video though, I think we're seeing a pretty common level of hubris among tech CEO's at work here when Satya continues putting a person (but a super smart and capable one like him, of course) at the centre of the direction and decision making. The blindspot here imo is that LLM models are going to eventually include enough data to make tech executives obsolete as well.

The difference between massively oversized LLM and AGI just means that our shitty version of AI will remain a slave to it's model, and produce imperfect results, won't be able to self replicate without direction, etc. Whereas true AGI does actually replace all current and possible cognitive work for humans.

Not sure. My hunch is that the bubble needs a pop. Deep Seek was the first prick

It should have been more than a prick tbh. It completely undercuts the majority of the value proposition of the VC darling AI model creators. But we're in an era where markets can remain distorted for as long as organized capital wants to keep them distorted for, and they're not going to admit by themselves that they fucked up on over investing in expensive LLM's.

how is this company valued so much higher than all other auto companies combined? The cars are literally falling apart if they don't catch on fire first, the company led by a demented lunatic doing everything in his power to run the brand into the ground. And the primary feature that set them apart has been exposed as a lie that is nowhere near ready for prime time. While at the same time the other automakers are finally catching up on the EV tech.

It's a meme stock.

We've transititioned over to a meme/grift economy over the last ~5 years.

It’s valued highly because it’s a bet on Elon figuring out and monetizing a bunch of sci fi tech before anyone else: autonomous driving cars, personal assistant robots, etc etc

it’s no coincidence the stock is actually down $100 in recent weeks as Elon is increasingly perceived as more of a rich asshole than a visionary

i get it in the past, but that ship sailed a year ago

I thought that about Trump on Jan 6th 2021 (ship has sailed) but some grifts last longer than you think.

Also when stocks go up (TSLA post election) they create their own reality as people pile on looking to bank coin on the momentum

Elon is overrated junk but Tesla's revenue growth over the last 10 years or so has been nearly unmatched. The stock priced in a lot of growth back then, and it sorta happened. Sorta. Problem is we're still pricing in a lot of success and execution by Elon.
