just fucking around on bluesky a bit and.....I think it might just work. Not sure if critical mass of posters has been reached quite yet but it's close.
 
ah fuck yeah they have deck.blue which is the same as tweetdeck - which elon fucked us over and didn't let us use anymore.

If you are looking for feeds to follow I HIGHLY recommend the Science feed. Everyone who posts to it is vetted to ensure they are actual scientists and science communicators to prevent misinformation and pseudoscience from being posted. It's a great place to learn and interact with science...

I guess I'll dust off my account at some point. Kind of sad that there's no common areas anymore...everything is either centre-left or hard right

The conservatives always eventually come over and ruin the cool spaces. If bluesky takes off they'll do it again.

I think it's at critical mass. A bunch of big accounts have already mentioned that they have a fraction of the followers on bluesky but are seeing the same or more engagement. Twitter is basically Rumble + Dead Internet now. Fascists and bots with Elon's thumb on the scale deciding what content gets visibility.

it's actually much like old twitter already (i mean og twitter back in the day) where it's full of actual experts talking to each other in all different areas.

all it really needs is to get all the actual interesting people there enough that all the newsy people default post there (even if it's just simulcasting their twitter posts) so that breaking news is as good there as it is on twitter. but that's gonna be tough to get to.....but really it should be doable without needing the 75% of twitter that's useless zero-value users.

and it won't even be left-siloed too much - lefties naturally post all sides, just like they did on old twitter.

but if it can get the (real) breaking news accounts there, add that to the already impressive expert users there, then it gets to being twitter, minus all the bots and trash, but admittedly also without some quality conservative viewpoints.....but they'll come eventually, just like they did to twitter.
