The 2019-2020 MotherFucking Season Thread

If they go after manson and have to move a kerfoot/kappy then maybe we try and add on derek grant or if its dumba if we can get koivu to the deal.

Would Thornton is willing to come east.

Just seeing where cheap vet forwards could come in and play a role until soup and AJ are back.

Jesus. Injuries have decimated us this year. I can’t remember any Leafs team, or any other Toronto team for that matter, ever having it this bad.

So we cant use riellys money but we can use AJs money.

That's a silver lining. It wouldn't have been ideal being forced to hold Rielly out until the playoffs even if he was ready to go.

And while it sucks to lose him, AJ hasn't been giving us a whole lot this year.

Really, overall we're getting pretty shit value for the $10.1M combined we're paying to Kerfoot, Kapanen & Johnsson.

This Muzzin extension scares the shit out of me. I’ll be really upset if it’s 5 years. We know as we sit here that that’s going to be an anchor at that time that we won’t have an easy time dropping anywhere. It has to be 4 years, no more. And I have to believe this won’t rule out Pietrangelo. Maybe we’d move a second tier forward to make room. And we should since one of those guys will have to play on the fourth line, with the first three all packed.

Front load it at 4 years, 20 million and you're minimizing risk substantially. If you believe he currently provides the value of a 6.5-7.5 million dollar defensman like I do, it's a no brainer. You're likely getting a discount for the first year or 2. After that, of course it gets a bit dicey but you can frontload that shit and your risk is minimized.

You guys have to remember that you sign these aging vets for the first 1-2 years, not the back half. If you can limit it to 4 years and if you can get a clear discount for at least half the contract, it's hard to say no.

the analytics say they're pretty much perfectly good value tbh. though thelack of pp production kind of masks it.

we're just a bit spoiled because cheapos like mikheyev, engvall, and spezza have been so good.

Yeah, I'm still feeling a little burnt by the Marleau deal. As we all should tbh.

I'm over giving anyone term on the back 9 if it risks future cap structure and assets. If JT loses a step at the same time Muzzin loses a step, that could be an ugly 16 million dollars on the ledger at a time we're trying to sign Sandin, Robertson, Lilly, re sign Mo, etc.

Yes, but he used to be a Senator and that's a point of analysis for some reason.

That’s why he leaves a bad taste, but it’s not why he’s not my kind of player. I’m legit terrified of him in the playoffs. Every single game he’ll make a few really dumb plays that lead to turnovers and then he’s gassed and can’t do anything about it or he heads to the bench and let’s someone else rush to the defensive zone to try to clean up his mess. I’m so scared he’s going to make a series turning gaffe. Same with Barrie. I have zero trust in those two.
