The 2019-2020 MotherFucking Season Thread

A comp I've always liked for Muzzin is McDonagh:

Age 29-30

Muzzin: B+ qoc, .99p/60, .60p1/60, 52.7cf% (+2.9relT), 52.0xgf% (+2.1relT)
McDonagh: A- qoc, 1.17p/60, .70p1/60, 50.9cf% (-2.8relT), 52.9xgf% (-0.2relT)

And Muzz might actually be better.

And McDonagh at 30 is in the first year of a 7 x $6.75m deal that takes him thru age 36.

Yeah, that McDonagh contract is probably going to get really ugly at the end too.

If someone wants to make the argument that contending in the next 2 years of the contract is worth it, I'm perceptive to that argument. But the argument that the last few years of the contract aren't going to be an overpay (and maybe an ugly one) probably doesn't hold much water.

The league is trending younger and faster, Muzz is already old and slow in this league. He'll be getting older and slower.

Petry 29-30: B qoc, .74p/60, .58p1/60, 53.5cf% (+3.5relT), 53.6xgf% (+3.0relT)
Petry 31-32: B qoc, 1.19p/60, .76p1/60, 56.3cf% (+3.1relT), 54.7xgf% (+0.9relT)

CJ says sounds like 4 years for Muzz. May not be announced until March 1.

Yeah, something about how the amount of cap space you can have committed to next season goes up as of March 1st, so they'll likely wait for that date. That would also mean that they wouldn't be able to officially re-sign him until after the trade deadline.

Muzzin confirms it's close. Guess it wasn't just a Paul Dreger rumor after all eh.

Jake is coming back and I'm loving it folks. Zeke's numbers completely validate this decision for me.

Leafs recall Korshkov & Marchment from the Marlies.

Wonder if it’s just to give them an NHL paycheque for the day, or if they might sub in for Timashov and/or Goat.

Marchment was trash last time he was up but he has been sizzling fucking hot in the A since getting sent back down. Wonder if they give him another chance because by all accounts he's consistently their top nerd stat guy down there. He just came off an injury when they called him up last so maybe he wasn't fully up to speed.

Korsh has had a decent enough year too but I mean the guy is turning 24. Not really a prospect.. maybe a 4th liner at the NHL level. Obviously same with Marchment but I have a sneaky suspicion they believe in more from him based on nerd shit. Perhaps a Hyman type complementary player in a third line role. Not confident he can be that but nerds will be nerds.

Siegel points out that Korshkov & Marchment both played on Friday & Saturday for the Marlies.

So that likely rules them out for tonight.

I do not think total raw points OR points pace are very useful measures of player quality at all, but given that they were such a large part of the conversation around this, here's updated raw totals and pace for all the big money RFA forwards that signed their post-ELC contract in the last 2yrs:

In fact, this should be taken as proof that p/60 stats are >>> Raw stats.

Gotta hand it to Mucho. His production is heads-and-shoulders above all the guys he was being compared to.

And he's neck-and-neck (points-wise, at least) with the guy he and his camp kept stubbornly comparing himself to.
