The 2019-2020 MotherFucking Season Thread

Wait...who the **** is that? That doesn't describe anyone I mentioned.

.918 in the playoffs means that you're getting 2nd best goaltending in almost every series

Already addressed this last night, that's a myth. Well, not entirely a myth I guess, but it only happens in November every year.

Well Lehner was .908 two seasons ago. Gibson is .908 right now. Binnington didn’t play before last season.

So again, it’s not like if you had Gibson, you could just remove him from the fantasy roster and add Bishop now. Great five years before this one though, but only two years where he was significantly better than Freddy. You can cherry pick and say these two or three guys are better, but even them, not all the time, and often not by very much. All of which is to say that Freddy is pretty damn good when you compare him to other starters and really shouldn’t give anyone much basis for complaint.

It's funny looking at the numbers of the 3 highest paid goalies.
The media will start soon enough a narrative that Freddy needs a massive long-term deal soon. Dubey is smarter than that.

I was just lounging yesterday and literally for the first time in my life I watched a full Habs game when they weren’t playing the Leafs. The story of battle of the $10m goalies was too compelling, plus the importance to the standings. And wow, that was a combined $20m of garbage on display. Price honestly has the best PR team on the planet to still be counted among the greats. Just fucking terrible. And Bob was not much better. Based on the quality of those goals, it really should’ve been like a 2-1 or 3-2 game.

Yeah I don't get how there's not much talk at all about how crap Price is. Bobrovsky I guess it's a Florida thing. Imagine Dubas signed a 32 year-old goalie for 7 years, 10 million per? He's be beaten silly.

I can see how some smaller market teams would just get a big PR boost and uptick in ticket purchases by landing a big fish UFA. I get it from Florida's perspective somewhat, even though it's still an epically dumb move to sign a goalie for huge dollars and term. But from Montreal's perspective, it's fucking insanity. That extension was the turning point in their franchise. If they took the other fork in the road and traded him and all the other older players and started over, they might be in exactly the same spot they're in now, just with a team full of 20-23 year olds just like us. And that would've reignitied a true rivalry between the franchises. As it is, they'll flounder a bit more, fire Bergy, and take a torch to it.

Would be nice to have someone in the system to take over for Andersen when his contract is up. At this point it looks like we might need to make a trade for someone. Or they resign Andersen to a contract we won't like.

I like Andersen for the most part. a 917 career SV% is good. We've been spoiled by him the last few years compared to what we had the decade prior. I'd love to have a Hasek type goalie that can win you a series but those just aren't available very often. I know he lets in some stinkers but i for the most part he's been good. I think we over-analyze everything Leafs because they are our team. If we watched some of the other goalies have shit games we'd be hard on them as well.

Kivihalme instead of Liljegren? Jeez, what does it take to get Lilly into a game?

Our D looks weak on paper now without Muzzin and teams know it. Rangers are an aggressive team anyways, but they were all over Barrie and Rielly.

I am so bummed out about Soupman being out indefinitely. Kid was a favourite of mine and not have the Big Bear on the backend is bad.

Even Strength

Rielly 24:46, 2gf/1ga (67%), .99xgf/.75xga (57%), 35cf/22ca (61%)
Barrie 20:31, 3gf/2ga (60%), 1.26xgf/.48xga (72%), 36cf/18ca (67%)

The 1 goal against they were on for was when rielly was in deep and marner gambled at the blueline on the breakout pass, leading to ziba rushing down the wing and fake slapping fred into oblivion.

The 2nd goal Barrie was on for was the OT goal, but he was just jumping on the ice and was nowhere near the play.

little insomnia last night and i put together a couple all-p60 teams at about 3am and i like them enough now that i think i'll post them. I think my rule here was that any teammates in the top-12 had to be put on the same line, and then i filled in all the single available spots according to position. I think it worked out neatly - both top-12s here fit perfectly without needing to split teammates or play anyone out of position (except arguably malkin).

I used average p60 and p1/60 - i.e. basically just counting 2nd assists as half a point.

2yr Team (last year plus this year)

Marchand 2.69 - Crosby 2.68 - Pastrnak 2.49
Huberdeau 2.55 - Matthews 2.62 - Marner 2.76
Draisaitl 2.51 - McDavid 2.67 - Panarin 2.74
Stamkos 2.47 - Point 2.52 - Kucherov 2.70

3yr Team (last 2yrs plus this year)

Draisaitl 2.41 - McDavid 2.75 - Panarin 2.49
Marchand 2.70 - MacKinnon 2.42 - Pastrnak 2.40
Malkin 2.37 - Matthews 2.68 - Marner 2.34
Stamkos 2.45 - Point 2.34 - Kucherov 2.66

What makes this especially impressive for Matthews and Marner here is that of all the teammates listed here, they are the only ones who have mostly never played with each other on the same line. Which is actually pretty nuts. Every single other set of teammates there have been permanent linemates.
So trade for huberdeau to fill the line out?

Assuming they are protecting against burning a contract year. See him later in the year

It's interesting to see the guys that come up and get some ice under Keefe, as he's coached all these guys directly (albeit this year's recruits for just 20+ games). It's also a breath of fresh air to have a coach that will see eye-to-eye with the GM on who gets a legit shot.

Bang on LOF

Poor asset management over a decade

Never capitalized properly on vets except the great Patches trade

Horrendous drafting and development

This is how you stay in the dreaded middle and going nowhere

Bergy is the worst thing that literally ever happened to your franchise. Is there one other person who has caused even close to the damage he has?
