The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

I remain worried about his playoff lineup choices, yeah. But I think he has handled the bottom six carrousel quite well this year. Salvaging Malgin was a decision that most here wouldn't have made and it looks like it has paid off. ZAR might be fixed too.

It feels like Keith doesn’t have the confidence to do what he started doing when he first took over and just play the guys that were going that night and make in game line up changes.

Not sure what happened to that. It felt like he used to have a much better handle of how a game was going.

Yeah, I didn't have a major process takeaway here due to sample. Don't know how much worse than expected it is, how much is driven by luck (if a significant portion of the 5v5 is luck driven, 3v3 must be driven by luck even more), etc.

Just saw GF% as the best way to measure results of what's happened.

The actual time on ice total is probably what, like 10 minutes, if that?

Like, Robertson and Gio are top of that list because of that one shift in Nick's first game.

The Polkaroo effect. Murray and Samsonov can't be on the active roster at the same time. Maybe they're the same guy.

Looking at the x #s, it seems to be a lot of luck from a small sample size.

goaltending also is exposed in 3 on 3.
Marner should be lights out in OT, as a guy with excellent defensive awareness, good speed and the toolbox to use all that open ice.

But too often gets knocked down, or turned around in the o-zone and cannot recover.

It should surprise no one if he turns into a #1 defender.

16 - Elite prospect
17 - Mono
18 - Quality 3rd pairing defender in AHL
19 - Top 4 defender in AHL
20 - #1 defender in AHL interrupted by covid shutdown
21 - Season interrupted by more covid fuckery, and for some reason we felt it was better for Zach Bogosian to play 45 games. Moar stud AHL #1 stuff
22 - Establishes himself as a NHL regular with ridiculous underlying analytics, continues to get dicked around by the coach
23 - We Are Here.

I don't think it's crazy to suggest that without the covid shutdowns fucking with his development time in the AHL, he probably pushes harder for ice time in his 20 & 21 yr old season. Generally advances a year in his current development where he sure looks like at least a top 4 defender at 23.

All the tools are there for at least being a complimentary top pairing guy, and maybe a 2 way water carrier.
