The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

Honestly, just watch hockey and you can figure ROR would come up in conversations. Why are they paying Lebrun? And is Brett Pesce still avilable for Nylander?

"Leafs winning the Cup might be counterproductive as some of their players will see their stocks rise and will invariably get more money elsewhere"
#BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor

Dubas was right all along about Nylander (sorry if feelings were hurt) but all that does is create anxiety that Sexy will soon be too sexy for our blue shirts.

I see no contradiction here. Just one of the side effects of the fandom version of PTSD.

Nothing funny about PTSD.

The only cure is winning two Cups. (One cup will be awesome in the short term but create long term anxiety about staying on top)

Oh, they can. They choose to ignore it when convenient though. Matthews-Marner-Nylander are going to cost at most 5-6 million more to lock in for the rest of their natural hockey playing lives.

Matthews +2 to ~13.5
Nylander +2 to ~9
Marner +1 to ~12

and those are probably top end numbers. Top salaries haven't risen much at all since those guys signed their deals.

and yeah, that money comes from the death of Jake Muzzin and JT signing for the ~5 million or whatever a 34-35 yr old John Tavares would be worth on the open market.

I noticed as well, yesterday Bryan Hayes stated "Samsonov is a free agent". I was thinking, is he just forgetting to say "Restricted Free Agent", or is he purposely trying to mislead people to think He can leave in July.
They do this. Kypreos last year when talking about Ritchie suddenly decided to add his cap hit for 2 years and said Dubas gave him "5 million in a contract'. That helps create panic.

I should have been more precise -- intellectually there's a deep contradiction. But emotionally, it's just different shades of worry. And what is a fan without emotion?

Unlike the majority of folks here, my friends IRL are in a constant state of worry about the Leafs.
Media is just feeding them more worry.

A little unrelated, but even someone as analytical as yourself will use the term "Leafy" to describe sad turn of events that occur in other sports.

That scar has been earned through the years, and part of the collective psyche in the province.

I doubt people who follow or write about the New England Patriots spew their analysis driven by the same emotional baggage

Just wait for the "Nylander is vastly more valuable to another team than he is to the leafs" article so they can still stick with the he's overpaid for the leafs structure and he is too expensive for the leafs narrative

Oh yeah when they sign him all the talk will be about him being overpaid again. No fucking doubt. CH1 will be angered by this, but I will very likely even laugh at it when it happens.

LeafNation has yet to do anything that has angered me. Please consult WeHave for this emotion.

I've said this before, I find LeafNation somewhat endearing, similar to how I felt about CubNation before they broke their 108 year drought.
