The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

Quick check I see Sammy is 5th in the East in sv% and 4th in gsaa

Despite a recent slump his numbers are good this year

You just back off of vacay? I'm assuming that you've spent at least the last 72 hours somewhere without internet.
Been patiently waiting for another move. He didn’t go all in. This is the year to do it. That Boston pick is useless.

Poach Brisebois or Yzerman to complete this team and get us over that hump. Lol

We’re better than Tampa on paper. There are no excuses not to win a round. Boston is real good.

Yeah we were better than them last year, and we're a bit better now and they're probably a bit worse. Should win.

Hopefully the boston injuries are legit and not just complete ltir shenanigans because they were slightly ahead of us pre deadline and are now a big step up on us post deadline.

Haha, that should be the new Leafs slogan. Forget "Passion That Unites Us" - let's go with "Should Win".

I note that that is very different than Killer's famous mantra, which would be preferable.

A Couple of Things:

  • I am a little confused on the "slower" Leafs narrative. Other than ROR and I guess Schenn , who did they pick up that is slow? Accari, Lafferty and Gus and McCabe are known for their skating ability. When they acquired Lafferty, they said he might be one of the fastest players in the league. Same with Accari.
    • "What do you think you can bring?"
      Lafferty
: Speed, energy, some physicality, penalty killing… Just whatever is asked of me, I hope I can help the team."
  • The Leafs are still good defensively. All the guys they brought in are known for their defence, and should do it with less heavy usage.
  • I am concerned about the 2LW, they really need a goal scorer there, I guess they think Knies will do the job? That is a lot of pressure to put on a rookie. Or maybe some guy goes on a heater ala Nick Paul?
  • In one of the interviews that Dubas gave that he and the org was concerned about their lack of depth in D-men. He said that maybe it was recency bias on his part, but there were a couple of games that they only had like 2 top 6 d-men playing that night. We would all hate seeing Mete or Benn playing good minutes in big games against Boston or Tampa.
  • I pray they don't play Schenn over Lily
  • Lol on the talking heads saying we need a vet goalie just in case... how come other teams are praised when they play their young goalies but the Leafs are talked down too?
  • Really, I just think Dubas wants the Leafs to be "harder to play against" and get guys that score close to the net.
  • If I had to call it, I think Lafferty will be this years Nick Paul - because no one is talking about him... lol

One thing I'll say is that I agree that the leafs, on paper , are better than Tampa if we ignore goaltending (could be wide variance there in a series). But I will say that while Boston on paper are way better, the leafs tend to match up with them very well and seem to consistently outplay them based on my memory of their games this year.

So I would not say all is lost even if dubas botched an opportunity to bolster the lineup to or near Boston caliber. The frustrations are very valid but they can still win in spite of Kyle's massive errors.

If we ever ended up playing Carolina in the playoffs, that’d somehow be the one series that fat fuck would be “healthy” and in Frezina form.
Actually that team with him in net would be the one I’d be most confident against. Boston, TB, NJ, and NYR, in that order, are the ones that worry me.

Let’s face it, any team worries me. Leafs have everyone teetering, so perfect time to run the table with lessened expectations, but also perfect time to take another massive Game 7 shit.

They definitely can, but too bad we didn’t get to keep the best roster we had, or improve it as we definitely could’ve yesterday.

Like even JVR, that would at least have been something. Some effort to add more goals to the lineup. I mean, they brought the wrong trade component back. They needed the F.

I mean yeah it's not really debatable that they fucked up and flat out downgraded their team a few days ago. Sandin, liljegren, Engvall out. Schenn, ZAR in. Significant downgrade no matter how you try to spin it. They could have been so much better but they actively decided not to be.

But yeah, they can still do it. They seem to match Tampa closely every time they play them... Games are always a coin flip. But now they've got the ROR factor. Could be a difference maker, we'll see.
