The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

I wish I could just understand the thinking behind it. I haven’t had a chance to watch any Dubie press conference. Did he address why the duck he got rid of those guys and added extra D that won’t even get into the lineup?

He said the dumped Engvall because they were over the cap and had to dump someone.

they wanted extra D because of all the injuries they had earlier in the year and how bad their AHL D are. Didn’t want to be in a position where you have to play Benn, Hollowell, Mete, Kral in the playoffs.

didn’t explain Sandin.

The media sucks at asking questions. No questions about why trade Raz and no questions about whether he looked into getting another forward. Though he did say he was pretty much done after the schenn trade so he expected it to be quiet so maybe he answered the latter without it being asked.

That’s why I think they tired of off ice shit with him.

The press let him off the hook (like Presto said)

When Dubas said “we needed more D” it was easy to ask “then why trade Raz for futures”

Thing is most writers already have their looming article half written in their head so they ask a question that will provide a supporting quote to a piece that is easy to write

Mirtle said he requested a trade and wasn’t happy here and he was bang on about their whole deadline.

also he talked to a bunch of ppl around the league pre deadline and no one thought they would move Ras because it doesn’t make sense to trade him for a 3rd round pick.

Sports writing is the lowest form of journalism. It's TMZ for (kinda) straight men.

Sandin had a pretty good opportunity with some of our D injuries this year but I don't think he earned more opportunity than he got tbh.

3rd youngest defender in the league to 140 GP, with the only 2 getting there faster being studs Dahlin & Seider.

Tons of opportunity.

I think he did great with his opportunity. How much more can be reasonably expected from him at his age with his first sort of regular-ish stint (I think last year he was jerked around more). Improved on last year's numbers. Looked good to me. Should be in our top 6, that's for sure.

I'm not surprised that they moved Raz and fully expected that he'd ask for a trade urgently after the McCabe move. Think I even mentioned that here immediately. I'm just a little surprised that they traded him for a late first; a lower pick than where they successfully nailed their Raz pick. I've never been huge on him but I think he's worth more than that. And then to not flip the pick for immediate help surprised me too. Strange.

I see a lot of people comparing Raz to Dermott and tbh I don't think they're comparable players.

He certainly didn’t reach out and grab a bigger role in the same way Liljegren did.

At the same time though, I feel like the Sandin/Lilly pairing was pretty great while both Rielly & Brodie were out, and were a big part of the Leafs being so solid defensively during that portion of the season.
