The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

The appeal for Ekholm is that he's supposed to be cheaper. There should be a discount to take on the back years of a contract on a 32 year old and it's only worth exploring aggressively as a potential inefficiency that Kyle can exploit. Yes, he takes on some risk but the whole point will be to provide this team the most possible value at a "discounted" price; sweet spot much? You're not getting Chyc for a discount because the risk profile is drastically different.

But his age, 33 in May, is a concern given the term left on the deal. The asking price would be high — perhaps as much as two first-round picks. Not sure there’s a team out there willing to pay that. But at the very least, the Preds are talking to teams about him.

Yeah I see that as bullish on his cost. These rumor guys always get fed the asks from teams and it's never even close to reality. That tells me it won't be 2 firsts... And tbh Sandin + a 1st = 2 1sts essentially. They should be able to get him for less. Depends on their appetite to trade him of course. If they're not that horny, they'll just hold him unless they can rip a team off. But IMO this is the highest his value will ever be, especially for the Leafs. You want as many playoff runs as possible while he is at or near his best.

I don't think Leafs add anyone significant. I worry about Ehk's contrcat. Don't see them doing it. It'll be some support player added.
And yes, media always inflates costs of players because they are hearing from the team what they hope for. Then they do a 180 turn if Leafs add someone like ROR.

The better cheaper 24 year old would probably cost Sandin + Knies + a 1st. Ekholm may only cost something like Sandin and a 2nd/3rd. These are drastically different markets.

Do we want to lock up future cap space on these players? It's partially opportunity cost of these players vs keeping Bunting/O'Reilly.

Sandin + Bunting/O'Reilly or Ekholm.

Thats not different than what I said. The rumour is two firssts and people are talking about Sandin plus. If the cost for Ekholm is similar to Chychrun, Chyrchrun is the guy.

Yeah I guess if you think Sandin is really good then I could see why you'd be gun shy on going in on Ekholm. I just have a hard time believing Raz will ever be even close to the level Ekholm will be for the next 2 years at the very least. If all it takes is Raz and a mid round pick, or even Raz alone, to acquire a d that will immediately put their d corps in the top 2 or 3 in the NHL then I do that every time. Having something like Ekholm-Brodie as a shutdown pair for the next 2 playoff runs is quite possibly the only missing ingredient for this team to get to the next level.

Chychrun will require them to unload every A-asset they have. And even that may not be enough. These are drastically different situations and I think the market will show that if they are both moved.

And no, I'm not against them blowing it up for Chychrun either, FWIW. I just think Ekholm is clearly gonna prove to be better value. The packages shouldn't be comparable.

need percentages and printouts from you Presto.... to counteract LOF's Harvey's infected sports gut

CJ noted that while Polie was asking for 2-1sts he likely won't get it to due to the "hefty" cap hit (which I think is a bargain for what be brings )

Rob Rossi now saying the Pens are in on Chychrun as well. Sullivan wants him but Hextall dont want to pay the ask just yet

What about the Caps actual shut down dman:

I think Pens are near the end. To give up massive futures in a trade after doing it for 15 years seems dumb. Chychrun won't turn them into a contender again.
I mean they started adding at the deadline and got Gary Roberts. That's how long it's been.

If you're not adding to Sid and Gino, you may as well trade them and end the era

Crosby has 2 more years, Malkin 3 more years and Letang 5 more years.

They will keep going for it and hope they find the fountain of youth for a couple months in the spring.
