What’s even more fun is that since his deal was signed by the cheap-ass Melnyk Sens, it’s heavily back-loaded. So even after Ottawa’s 25% retention, he’ll be owed $6M in real salary.

That means dumping him to a place like Arizona won’t be an option. And if we find anyone to take him, we’ll have to pay through the nose.

Or he fails his physical due to conkies, this is his 2nd season in a row that will be ended by conkies so that's an easy one. Kyle (or replacement) has a conversation with Matt, tells him that he's not in the plans but we're happy to pay him for the year to get healthy and try to chase another opportunity the following year if he wants. Matt nods, packs his bags and hangs out on the beach of Robidas Island for a season.

That only works if the player is actually injured, doesn’t want to play anymore or you’ve got a cold-as-ice mob-boss GM that would place the severed head of Murray’s beloved pet in bed with him if he won’t play ball with the LTIR shenanigans.

Murray is obviously damaged. You don't get continuous "head injuries" accidentally. This is at least his 4th concussion of his NHL career, and that's just what I found on a quick search so there's probably more.

Hell, somehow a doctor signed off on Ondrej Kase playing professional hockey this year, until it immediately ended the way any idiot could have predicted.

So good luck forcing Murray onto LTIR from the start of next season for his conkies if he’s determined to play.

Those are the exceptions though. Lindros, Stevens, Lafontaine, Savard, Kariya, Primeau, etc, etc x100 are the general rule.

The brain can only take so much abuse
