The Fucking Offseason Thread - Why bother waiting?

I know we have our arm chair GM's but I really think we just have to wait until this is all done.

Dubas may have a deal in place for Kerfoot elsewhere and with his "friendship" with Francis, maybe they worked it that they wanted McCann, and so Dubas said take him from us as I have a deal for Kerfoot in place with Detroit, Arizona etc.

Holl is not the best, but he is a RD that you know.

So in the end you lose a 7th and McCann, but gain the cap space and the player you can get for Kerfoot in a trade.

Thing is, we don't know what they hell is going to happen.

Once upon a time I would’ve been on board with thinking like this and waiting for the 3D chess move, but Dubas has lost the benefit of the doubt from me.

Doubt it.

Dubas imo simply prefers to lose hallander instead of holl, kerfoot, or dermott.

I doubt he gets that. Feels like the rumors of what Colorado was offering him are probably closer to what he'll actually get.

Unless Seattle wants to blow their brains out, and maybe they will.

  • The Kadri trade.
  • Signing Tavares long-term.
  • Botched contract negotiations with the big-3.
  • Bringing back Babcock for his final year.
  • Repeatedly doubling down on Andersen.
  • Royally fucking up the backup goaltending two seasons in a row.
  • Going big on veteran gudpros & grit last summer, giving them carte blanche to stay on the roster/in the lineup regardless of performance.
  • Choosing Thornton & Simmonds over Corey Perry last summer.
  • Having the worst trade deadline by a Leaf GM in my lifetime this season.
  • Re-signing Wayne Simmonds to a multi-year contract extension.

All this isn’t to say that I’m clamouring for him to be fired yet, or that there aren’t a bunch of good things he’s done on the flip side from everything I’ve listed above.

But there’s more than enough minuses in the ledger at this point that I’m no longer going to automatically make the assumption that he knows what he’s doing when he makes a move that, on the surface, doesn’t make sense to me.

The Leafs top-4 defense is as good as its ever been and Muzzin-Holl has been an excellent tough usage matchup pairing since they were put together.

All what? All they did was give up an ok prospect instead of a roster player.

doesn’t matter whether you’d rather protect Dermott or Holl or Kerfoot. They get to keep all of them. At the expense of Filip Hallandar. I don’t get the hysteria.
