The Fucking Offseason Thread - Why bother waiting?

of course, they are likely going to pre-record all these selections, especially if it involves live fish-tossing.....so that could be more than just a test, it could be the actual filming of the picks.
 
They’re apparently announcing one pick this way. Still could be a test run but they’re not announcing all the team’s selections with fish.

which would mean they don't really need too many test runs....and this would be the actual recording of the one pick they make this way.

Coukd be 1 of 2 things IMO. They are either doing 3 or 4 cuts with the potential names they could select and kerfoot was the only one leaked or they are taking kerfoot.
 
It would be fucked up to film a test run and put someone who their not picking's name out there. Might even be tampering.

Also, I imagine they haven't decided on all teams yet due to ongoing trade talks, so it would make sense to film the picks that are solidified early, because they probably can't film 30 picks all over the city simultaneously tomorrow afternoon.

"Plus they should take Kerfoot. He's been held back playing behind Matthews and Tavares. Just look at how many points he scored in the playoffs when Tavares went down, and how many playoff goals Naz scored when he escaped their shadow.
 
Maybe Dubie called Francis and literally just asked him, hey if I acquire McCann would you be taking him over whoever you’re currently planning to take?, and Francis maybe did him a courtesy and said no.
 
Also, Dubas and Francis have the Soo connection so I think they do have a relationship.

The Maple Leafs GM added, "I've known (then-Carolina Hurricanes GM Ron) Francis my whole life, so he was, like, the only person I felt I could talk to. I just went in, sat in my chair, and took notes at the meeting, and got up and left. But I was nervous as anything."

very possible but if I’m Ron, I couldn’t really commit to anything until I see the whole board shake out. Maybe there’s an unexpected surplus at a certain position, or expensive players become avail that forces me to alter my moves.
 
Yeah I gotta lean towards this being the actual pick being recorded.

1. Picks are due tommorrow morning at 9am. They likely have most of them locked in already

2. If they were doing ALL their picks via fish-tossing, then it would make sense for them to be running a bunch of test cuts. But seems like they're only doing one pick via fish-tossing.

3. Since they're doing picks in a whole bunch of different ways with different celebs, it only makes sense that they're pre-recording all the picks, not doing them all live.

4. Since they're only doing one pick this way and all of them are being pre-recorded, it only makes sense for them to do the one fish-tossing pick in one recording session, and doesn't make sense to use dummy names.

5. conclusion - they're picking kerf.

They have the list of all the available players - not sure what is unexpected. Everything is in their control. I guess maybe medical stuff, but Kerfoot, dermott or McCann aren’t coming off major surgeries or injuries.
 
And digital files are expensivo so there’s no way they could afford to record a McCann version.

This is true.

Though McCann & Kerfoot play the same position, and have almost the same cap hit. So that hypothetical would be easier to answer than most, if Francis was inclined to give Dubas an honest answer as to which of those two he’d pick.
