This is kind of an important point regardless of what you think about the Tavares deal. 35/80 with good (but not great) nerdies is the minimum level of performance that is worth 11 million. We need 3 more of these from John.
 
Getting 4 years at 11m+ value is already a win for me. Should have been (and could still be) long enough for them to win a cup. You sign that contract for the first four years primarily and deal with what comes after. With that said I still think he has more in him.

It's really too bad Covid derailed a lot of good stuff our players could've delivered. Tavares would be working on his fourth straight 80+ point season. Matty has probably been deprived 30 goals from his career total.

In Tavares' case, that gruesome hit during the playoffs that knocked him out was another horrible blow to both him and the team itself because there's no way we lose that series if Tavares was playing those other 6 2/3 games.
