The Fucking Season Thread - Redemption Tour '22

I still like the idea of 1.5m for 3 years for a bagel that will easily replace Kerf, a guy they'll have to move on from next year. It would be pretty tidy to do something like that. It's boring and not gonna really move the needle so the price has to make sense and can't be what Jonas thinks it will be.

Ya that's pretty much gonna have to be it. Replacing Kerf with a cheap guy isn't exactly a dire need. It's more of a "would be nice if it makes sense."

A guy like Robertson replacing Kerf feels more exciting than a Bagel type anyway. Less certainty, but sexier upside at least.

They're gonna have to rely on one or more of him, Holmberg, Amirov, etc. next year with Kerf and possibly Mikheyev gone. Would be nice to add a Bagel type or a hidden gem UFA to get some certainty but I'm not particularly concerned even if they strike out. Some of those guys just have to be ready by next year to replace those middling talents; they're not exactly gonna be young pups anymore. Not a huge ask imo.

Yeah so if they ship one of those two out for a forward, we have to accept that their d probably got worse since I *think* this Russian dude is worse than both.

I could see Dermott being pissed and possibly asking for a trade, if not this year, then in the summer. He'll want to be guaranteed minutes in his contract year and he just won't have that here.

I used to have hope for Dermott but it would seem that his ceiling is middling.

The flashes of puck skill that gave us hope of a top 3 guy being in there somewhere were only ever flashes, never a consistent thing. Also has struggled whenever he moves up to the shut down pair and doesn't seem to love the right side. So he's a nice luxury to have (he's a legitimately very good 3LHD) but Sandin has clearly passed him. He's young enough that he still might turn into a decent enough #3-4 type, but we don't have the time and cap space to continue to audition him there for years.

Meh, you can only play 6 at a time. Dermott being a better #7 than this Russian who appears to at least be a functioning bottom pairing guy kind of doesn't move the needle for me. We can always turn around and pick up a veteran for the playoffs if we think we need 8. Just taking a quick glance at expiring guys on non playoffs teams: Yandle, Braun, Subban, Pysyk, Staal, Kulak, Gustafsson, Greene, Megna, Kukan....I'm sure the nerd and his nerd department can find something that isn't a tire fire for cheap to ride pine for most/all of the playoffs. If Dermott greases the wheels on an upgrade to our best lineup, get it done.

Yeah it's not a gamechanger. Just saying all this talk about them upgrading their d... Meh. Don't see it. And if they trade Dermott or Holl their top 7 is possibly downgraded, especially if it's Holl. If you can package Dermott for a guy that moves the needle up front it's a no brainer though, I agree. Not confident he has that kind of trade value but it makes sense to explore since I think he's gonna want out anyway. Plus his face annoys me so it'll be nice to not have to look at him anymore.
