Still don't see why we would move a dman out a month before the deadline.
I guess if a dermott or Holl were crucial to a trade for a better player maybe. But if so dubas would go out and add another depth dman before the deadline to get back to 8.
If he sees Dermott as an asset just wasting away that they don't have room for, it makes sense to move him, especially if they like the new Lyu guy.
The math would have to be that Dermott being cheap this year and next, still fairly young (just turned 25) and pretty good (he slots into a lot of top 4's around the league) is a good asset going outward, and getting a plug #7-8 on deadline day is relatively easy.
Here's last year's deadline plug deals
- Jordie Benn for a 6th
- Bowey and a 5th for a 4th
- Hutton for a 5th
- Gudbranson for a 7th
- Kulikov for conditional 4th
- Coburn for a 7th
- Merrill for Rando prospect and 5th
- Montour for 3rd
- Nemeth for 4th
What if Chicago likes Dermott tho and he's the main dude in a package for bagel. Bagel is likely worth more to this playoffs than a 7/8d.
But if muzzin or rielly or sandin gets injured I'd much rather have dermott step in in a pinch than those guys.
We can trade dermott in the summer.
Sure, but if the idea is Dermott + stuff/picks/prospects for a legit forward upgrade I think you have to consider it. I'd much rather add a Pavelski/Giroux etc up front than having Dermott sitting in the press box.
