The Fucking Season Thread - Redemption Tour '22

I think losing to Boston would just be a little more emotionally gutwrenching, that's all.

Logically, they're probably the better matchup.

We've been training for years to handle another loss to Boston. We'll survive. Can't fear it. Plus this would be the first time they'd be legitimate favorites against them and I genuinely don't think they can handle the Leafs speed.

All they'd need is a wash in the Matthews vs Bergchand line matchup. I'm pretty comfortable in the rest.

Yeah I’m going Boston too. I’m just not as scared of their goaltending getting the best of us.

edit: Boston has the head to head tie break and already will have more ROW.

Yeah just noticed Bruins have all the tiebreaks now.

Out of curiousity, any idea how well the Bergeron line did against Matthews' line this season? Mitch being a scoring threat is kinda new this time around.

Both realgud teams but I want Boston. Think of the storylines. The words exorcise and demons are gonna be fucking abused. Great way to get over the hump.

Plus I don't think Boston can handle their speed.
If we beat TB, we'll wipe the floor with Boston next if they're around.

Lose to Boston in the first round again, and we'll need to trade Matthews and Marner for picks.

This thought is unusually optimistic of me, but I guess this would be the first Leafs/Bruins series in recent history where Zdeno Chara's not playing almost half the game and mostly against our best offensive players.

And where we legitimately have a #1 line that we'd expect to do more than just tread water against the Bergeron line.

Two things I hate about Boston that haunts my thoughts every time I imagine them as our opponent.

Fucking Brad Marchand and his circus antics plus his on-ice wizardry.

The fucking Boston crowd in their building that goes fucking nuts all game long, and will always be in my head from the first 4-1 blown game 7 against them. Honorable mentions to Reimer, Gardiner, and Carlyle in those memories.

Matthews played with Nylander and Bunting in the first game. They were home and likely got a good matchup (Bergeron line was also ~60% xgf% that game) but they crushed it. Marner player with JT and Kerf and they weren't great. Marner was a different player in November tho.

2nd game was another where bergchand was ~60% xgf%. Bruins clearly got the last change in that one at home as Matthews was at 39%.

BOS and TB have been at a similar level this year on both top and underlying numbers.

But with TB you have the fear that they're just been waiting for the playoffs to turn it back up to cup level. Don't have that fear with Boston.

Yeah - a big reason why TB hasn't been great this year is because their stars Kuch Point Vasi haven't been dominant. And those 3 are like the biggest reason they won two cups in a row so I wouldn't count on them staying down.

10/10

Well, they can't be dominant every year. And this year is that year that they're not.

Except that they are at the moment. So I don't know what to think. Let's just play already.
