The ****ing Season thread, 2015/16 Edition

I really wish they'd put Feschuk back on the basketball beat.

As a Leafs reporter, the guy's even worse than Howard Berger.

I love how the media has always said... I don't know if the fans will put up with a rebuild... and then they are the first to yell "Why aren't they winning?"

dumb as shiites

He wasn't good at the whole basketball thing either

Oh, I'm sure he was shit there too. But for me personally, at least when he was focused entirely on basketball, I didn't have to hear anything about him. Beyond casually following what the Raptors' current win/loss record is and hoping that they do well, I don't really pay any attention to basketball at all.

Ideally, he'd be out of a job all together, or stuck as a full-time CFL reporter.

They've taken it as their job to sow discord at every turn because they're convinced that drives sales, clicks, etc.

Scott Harrington off IR and Rich Clune on waiver.

And clearly Dave Feschuk wasn't ready for pain.
Feschuk is a total waste of time ... i don't even bother reading the title if he's the author.

With Harrington off IR, Corrado still on roster, and Maricin also with the big club, it's kinda interesting we keep so many young dmen with us.

It's going to be interesting to watch the true hacks in the Toronto hockey media try and continue this strategy with the Lou/Babs/Shanny triumvirate in charge.

Hopefully it'll go about as well for them as it did back in the Paddy Quinn days.

Yeah, we're in a bit of an odd situation. They picked up Corrado because they like him and didn't want to pass on the opportunity to get him for free, but we just don't have the space for him right now. Either in the NHL lineup, or really even on the NHL roster. For now, they've waived Clune to make room for him, but he's still just going to keep sitting in the press box.

Eventually the problem will be somewhat alleviated by Polak getting traded as a rental on an expiring contract, but who knows when that'll be.

Uh, what did he even say?
To summarize:

Because he took Team Canada's head coaching job, Babcock is a irresponsible ego-maniac who's neglecting his duties as head coach of the Leafs and doing serious harm to the organization. And by extension, Leaf management is incompetent because they've chosen not to forbid Babcock from coaching Team Canada.

Basically, your standard ridiculous Dave Feschuk shit-disturbing inspired by his love of huffing paint fumes.

I hope he asks Babcock about it at the next scrum. These guys are due for some public tongue lashings. Burke basically ended Berger's career a few years ago for being consistently ridiculous. I'm hoping to see some of the same to the current group of **** boys. Every time a twat like Feschuk gets punted, it opens up a spot for another potential Lebrun, or Mirtle to get some shine.

JFJ confirmed the rumour that had been out there for years:

"The deal just didn't come together," Ferguson said Friday over the phone. "But I do recall [former Oilers assistant GM] Scotty Howson coming by the draft table and dropping a little shredded piece of paper with hand-written names and a draft pick. Believe me, I saved the piece of paper and I've still got it."

The names on the piece of paper were that of Tomas Kaberle and Alexander Steen plus a high draft pick.

Kaberle, 28 at the time, was just coming off a career-best, 67-point season. Steen, 22 at the time, had just played his first NHL season.

For starters, Ferguson didn't want to trade Steen, whom he viewed as a player with serious promise (he would be proven right on that). And on Kaberle, aside from the fact he had just had a monster season, there was something else.

"There was an element of honoring the contract with Kaberle, which included a limited no-trade clause, which that wasn't going to kick in until July 1," said Ferguson, who said he had made a verbal promise not to trade him before it kicked in.

Too bad. An in his prime Pronger with Mats would have been pretty good instead of ending up with Stempniak, Colborne and Biggs. Grabo wouldn't have been able to end his career either.

would have worked out better for edmonton, too.

and in retrospect it would have worked out much better for the leafs, but, then, steen should still be here.

The potential Pronger deal is one of the rare occasions I'll actually defend JFJ.

If we'd kept Steen, instead of letting our senile interim GM ship him off to St-Louis for next-to-nothing, the non-trade for Pronger would look a lot better in retrospect. And then while Kaberle was obviously no Chris Pronger, in the three years after that non-trade, he averaged about 9 goals and 60 points per season for us. And at the time, it looked like Kaberle's style of play would lend to him being able to continue on as a top offensive defenseman late into his 30's.

I'm honestly still completely baffled at the fact that Kaberle's career fell off a cliff at the age of 33 while Andrei Markov, who's the same age as Kaberle, is still chugging along to this day as a 40-50 point top-pairing defender.

Steen and Kaberle were/are very good players but they are no Pronger. First ballot hall of famer, and the best defenseman of the generation behind Lidstrom. Every team he was on he turned into a contender. He still had 5 good years left, and who knows how long if he hadn't run into the concussion issues. He was about the same age as Mats who the team was built around at the time.

You make that trade everytime.

It would have been even better if it was Mcabe and Steen.. Kaberle's abilities with Pronger would have been amazing.

If you also correct two other glaring errors JFJ made that offseason: (1) trading Rask for Raycroft, and (2) declining to sign Marc Savard when he approached them, the team would have been pretty good.

Antropov-Sundin-Poni
Tucker-Savard-Wellwood
Stajan-Peca-O'Neill
Kilger-Perreault

Pronger-McCabe
Gill-White/Kubina if you still have the cap room
Colaiacovo

Rask

Well you'll not have Pronger, cause JFJ declined to trade Steen and Kabby for Pronger.

So you'll have Steen as 2nd C, Kabby as #1D but no Pronger ... still a good team

Either way, JFJ was a complete moron who didn't take the best opportunity of his time here to improve this team by leaps and bounds. Combine that with trades like Rask for Raycroft, and it's no wonder this team was such a repetitive joke for a decade.
So glad to see Shanny clean house so completely. Perhaps we won't see a repeat of JFJ's lack of forethought.
