The Leafs' goaltending situation / Leafs pursuing Georgiev

Dubas, has so many options to him. IMO. He has Barrie, Muzzin, Johnsson, Hyman, Kapanen to trade if he wants.

None of those players are MLSE brand players, but some of them should have extreme value, for a top four team.

Load up on picks if he wants.

We could semi tank this year and win five straight Cups with the right trading.

Our core is very young, playing great and signed UP.

Dubas has a lot of options.

I love his dmen and forwards, his goalies, so far. Not at all. But he is young, he can still get "it".

Detroit? WTF?

Nothing that Detroit has is an upgrade on what we have, or worth paying anything for. Howard is absolute trash and worse than Hutch. Bernier would be a marginal improvement, probably, but I'd vomit in my mouth if had to watch Jonathan Bernier tend goal for the Leafs again.

Both those guys also make real money.

Miller would be an upgrade and a cheap one. But the question with him is less about acquisition cost, and more about whether he'd be interested in waiving his NTC and moving from southern California to be a stop-gap backup goalie in a Canadian city for a few months.

Does he have his name on the cup yet?
He isnt long for this league.... if he doesnt want to waive the NTC, then i dont want him anyways, he isnt interested in going for a cup

I mean...the last two teams he's signed with as a UFA have been Anaheim & Vancouver.

So I don't think "going for a Cup" has been one of his priorities in life for quite some time now.

We have a nice healthy core and great coach. Will be interesting to see what Dubas does. Chicago ain't trading Lehner now, they are competitive. That is the guy I want personally. Great goalie.

Ian Scott going down, was real bad. He was our ticket imo for the future.

That was real unfortunate for us.

Right.... really good point there.

Lets face it. Once these guys realize the money/gravy train, longevity, becomes a big issue.

They obtain wives, children etc....

Is the Stanley Cup as relevant for them as it was for guys even 20 years ago.

I really don't think so.

Its why I have been watching the NHl differently now as a fan.

I like seeing really good games, plays, etc...

Do Swedish kids grow up wanting to win a Cup? Russian kids? Nah, they want to make ten times the money they can make at home and they want to play against the best players in the world.

Think forward. It helps.

NHL is still great to watch, helps that everyone can skate and play now, that wasn't true as recently as ten years ago.

So its great spectating. But trophy hunting isn't what it was.

So take advantage of it, Dubas. Stock right up, and rule.

Cause Toronto does, still, till its more diluted, and boomers die off, want a Cup badly.

That was a real, real, real bold move imo by Quinn. And guess what? Turned out great. It was to me. Almost as good a trade as the Gilmour trade, signing Eddie.

I think he might have had a drink or two on that goal by Roenick, but I do NOT know for sure.

Getting the Marlies into Toronto. Was heavy.

Now figure out how to beat the other 30 teams in goalie development.

I've heard Dubas and Co. speak about this and I think they have the right idea. They look for athletes who are 6'3 and up. Given the changes to goalie equipment, I think that's sound scouting guidelines. Of the top 20 goalies in SV% right now (min 20 starts), only 4 are under 6'2 (Khudobin, Halak, Francouz, Raantta)

I guess that catch is that you actually have to spend draft picks on them.

Tired and exhausted of saying it. Get good goalies... Train them, Groom them, I don't care. But we haven't.

I have been on record on this. Who cares about Rasmus, Lil. Robertson. if you don't have great young turks in the background.

All for naught. Imo.

well, moreso that the expected goals metric is no longer calibrated correctly, likely due to equipment changes.

the ranks and percentages and relative to each other numbers still hold, of course, but the actual raw number values need an adjustment.

The worst part though is that within 12 months from now Dreger is going to be talking about our cap situation and how we can't afford to keep Sandin when he hits RFA status.
