I am again underwhelmed by the comments on Dubas. "rooting for him" ain't exactly the strongest endorsement. this isn't an actual quote of course but Mirtle wouldn't hesitate to colour the comments more negatively if he thought that's what it was.

yeah I’d blame me i likely worded it like shit….but I thought he stated it pretty strongly on the podcast that Auston wanted Dubas brought back. Like he made a point to seperate it from the rest of the conversation, and report it as fact that they had a great relationship, Auston really liked him, wanted him back etc.

Rarely has there been a person whom I envied so much. Whom in my mind I would trade places with in a heartbeat. Every other successful person I have a "yeah he's doing great, but..". With. 30 something Dubas I didn't have that. What a dream job and at that age.

I think what it comes down to is he really didn't want to be back. He was ok with the risk of asking for more $. He knew what could happen.
I think we've all had jobs where we said/did things after quite a while there we would not have in the first year.
His actions tell me he did want to leave. He'll regret it, and I don't get it myself. But he'd come back for a shit ton more cash. Leafs can't have a GM like that in this market and this team needing to win now.

His fight with Tampa fans, general attitude, and what we've known of him were all so in contrast. He was emotionally up to a point of fighting fans, and down to a point of tears at a press conference.

there were signs of the team starting to go backwards, and a strong chance dubas would have tried a mini blowup.

decent chance a new GM will want to give Dubas' plan more chances than Dubas would have.

This seems like the best case scenario. Here’s hoping.
