The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

I've seen worse messes. I lived through Ballard. When Ballard brought back Imlach, it was a gong show everyday.
The week that they traded Lanny was the oddest.

That's a disaster and would explain Kyle's bizarre shift from "what does safe even mean?" And "your eyes are lying sons of bitches" to acquiring scrubs who can't complete a pass. I thought he may have done shift that on his own but if that was all shanny then what a fucking absolute disaster.
He did not strike me as a guy to buckle to a subordinate. Eventually you'll hear he was being blocked from firing Keefe.

Him still being in Toronto is glaring.

I don't know why Dubas talked to the press...he should have talked to his wife...and then spend some time in an Aaron Rodgers style dark cave until he figured out if he wanted the job, and at what price...
Your assumption is that him falling on his sword wasn't a spousal requirement.

Now I don't know his wife at all but I do know plenty of women like that.

It will be very interesting when the trade(s) that Kyle wanted to make, but were blocked, finally come out. Everyone will see how the different sides lined up.

Mirtle does some ginning up in there but this was the most informative part for me:

Some are either wanting or expecting to leave.

Some are sad.

Some are excited by the opportunity.

Meh.

Exactly. Meh. There are after shocks after big organisational moves? Who knew?

This is the sound of 1000 scribes having to write something but having nothing to say.

Yeah if Shanny is blocking moves then we’re screwed. But he wanted to keep him.

but it’s funny framing it as dubas was going to make moves that definitely would have led the Leafs to more success. The guy had 5 years.

Important to remember the media has no sources inside and now ppl are just trying so save face. Take it all with a grain of salt.

sounds like the real truth behind this is that Dubas was sick of Shanahan overruling him and wanted complete authority in his new deal.

In the end that, and not a piddly (to MLSE) few million dollars seems far more plausible to me as the real end of the relationship.

Shanahan did a great job in his press conference, though. Guy is good. very very good.

He likely wanted to increase the amount of talent up front but Shanahan maybe felt grit and gudpros make more sense. And dubas obliged. So Shanahan was content with keeping a guy that he can "control."

Shanahan fighting to convince the board to keep Dubas doesnt make much sense if he was constantly disagreeing with the major moves Dubas wanted to make.
It does if Dubas always eventually buckled.

Shanny had his lacky, his lacky's wife got tired of hearing about it, lacky said not worth it so pay me a ridiculous amount to deal with this shit.

I would put money on that

Also look at what we actually know for certain, eg the coach who was Dubas guy. Dubas gave Keefe what he wanted. If Shanny was involved in the gud pro movement it wasn’t just him.

Oh and I always hired people that would disagree with me. Need alternative ideas always. Shanahan just had the last word like I did.
