The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

Agreed, but thats just 3 different pretty minor moves.

Protect McCann/Kerfoot over Holl
Trade Kerfoot in the ROR deal
Sleep in on Sandin/Engvall day.

well yeah but you're shoehorning a move from like 3 years ago into this year's deadline.

but doesn't matter - we agree that dubey made enough mistakes.

Forumice >> Dubas when it comes to keeping Kerfoot and choice of McCann/Holl

I’ll admit that with RHD being so difficult to find and with how enthralled I was with how well the Muzzin/Holl pairing played when Muzz was healthy, I was ok with the decision to protect Holl at the time.

But I’d prefer the GM of the Leafs be smarter than my dumb ass.

In fairness to Dubas though, he lucked into McCann being good. He only got him because of the Soo. So its not fair to expect that he would think he's better than Holl and have kept him long term.

Watching Vegas, and Tampa last year etc take advantage of the cap with LTIR and constantly not seeing us take advantage of that with Muzzin, and Murray off absolutely pisses me off.

I really want to know if that was a moral decision, a pridham decision or if the NHL would probably investigate the leafs just because.

I want a GM that will do anything to give us the best chance to win and to not fall in love with players to the detriment of the team.

That Kerfoot news really sucks.

I also bet Keefe had his voice on keeping Kerfoot on the ice as much as he did. Kerf was like Babcocks Hyman. But at least Hyman had a role and purpose.

The more this process plays out, the with the names that are out there, the more I believe Shanahan will just stick with his original plan on bringing in a progressive GM that is more forward thinking than a retread. But that also think that the new GM will need a "caretaker/ mentor" ala, Loufather for Dubas.

With that said , I find it interesting that the one name I haven't heard much of is AGM Ryan Hardy.

He is 37 and had success in his last couple of spots he was in:

Who Is the Toronto Maple Leafs New Hire, Ryan Hardy?

Hardy is coming off a successful run as a general manager in the USHL. He ran the Chicago Steel for three years, long enough to prove that he is an elite talent, ready to ply his trade for the Maple Leafs.

His tenure with the Steel will be remembered by the club’s USHL-best 116-39-8-2 record as well as it’s remarkable collection of hardware. Hardy captured a Clark Cup championship, the title earned by the USHL playoff champions.

That’s not the only victory Hardy had in Chicago. Along with the Clark Cup, his squads also won two Anderson Cups as the USHL regular season champions. They also managed to win two Eastern Conference titles. For his work, Hardy was even named the USHL GM of the Year in 2019.

In it’s press release, the Maple Leafs shared that “Hardy will oversee hockey operations for the Marlies and Growlers, including roster decisions and staffing. He will also work in unison with the Player Development department to track drafted prospects and participate in player personnel and scouting initiatives as needed.” This means that Hardy should have his finger prints all over the organization and can help build success from the bottom up.

Basically, he is on the "Dubas GM Pathway", and I would think hiring a "Treliving" would be for some cover and Mentorship.

Like the only thing that needs to be done with the roster before Jul 1 is if we want to sign one of our UFA before they hit the market.

I also watched the entirety of the Shanahan press conference today (as opposed to bits and pieces)... and i firmly believe everything he says. He says everything matter of factly. What an absolute mess Dubas created for himself.

A ton of tweeters seem to be taking the tweets from Seravalli and the guesses from Friedman at face value without considering the phrasing.
