The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

As for Bennett.....Foligno was more productive than him at that point not only that season but every previous season too.

There was no reason to believe that Foligno was anything more at that point than he was showing in Columbus. An okay 3rd liner.

There was reason to believe that Calgary was dogshit at developing Bennett and that there was more to him.

I dunno. All sorts of young flames were playing great around bennett.....tkachuk gaudreau monahan Lindholm mangiapane hanifin andersson kylington....hell bennett was getting outplayed by a young Jankowski.

Sandhiem would be a good pickup and the cost is pretty cheap. A 1st plus the Flyers take on a big salary dump and eat 50% of Hayes?

Yeah Foligno was an obvious name move and Bennett was an under the radar moveZ which explains the difference in cost.

but jo argument in which one of those deals worked out better.

Dubas went the “easy” expensive move a lot and didn’t have a lot of success finding diamonds in the rough.

I remember Kypreos saying the Leafs should trade Nick Robertson to the Flames for Bennett and at the time that sounded insane.

Whoa yeah didnt even remember him getting that payday. And he's already 27. Not a contract i want for a guy who's probably just a decent 2nd pair guy.

Sure, but there had to be something because, well, he's a whole lot better in Florida. Maybe it's the mythical "change of scenery" and he was just a young dipshit in Calgary, but he immediately became a much better player as soon as he got off of the plane

I don’t think it’s fair to focus on one guy like that. But it’s one example of many where dubas either prioritized veteran bottom 6 junk or failed to find the talent this team could have used.

I am not sure what about Bennett looked promising in Calgary. But Florida is one of the more analytic reliant teams and have pulled a ton of undervalued players from other organizations over the last few years (Duclair, Verhaghe, Marchment, Bennett, Montour, Forsling) so there must have been something.
