The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

I am not sure what about Bennett looked promising in Calgary. But Florida is one of the more analytic reliant teams and have pulled a ton of undervalued players from other organizations over the last few years (Duclair, Verhaghe, Marchment, Bennett, Montour, Forsling) so there must have been something.

The only promising sign from Bennett was that even when he sucked, somehow he always produced in the playoffs.

Otherwise, yeah…can’t claim that I was clamouring for us to acquire him at any point.

Though I will take credit for being a massive Nick Foligno hater from pretty much the moment he was first suggested as a trade target around here.

I’m not sure Foligno on its own is that big a thing, but man, that whole deadline really sucked. It was almost a whole draft’s worth of picks that helped the team minimally if at all. So it kinda rubs me the wrong way to hear his minions run to the papers and imply he was prevented from making this team more successful.

One of the most annoying parts of that was it was all done vaguely enough that the audience could fill in the blanks themselves and attribute all the moves they liked to Dubas, and all the moves they didn’t like to that nasty, interfering Shanahan.

The good news is that I hear Pittsburgh is nicer than Toronto, so they will like their new jobs when they fuck off eventually.

I woulda been tempted before the playoffs but rielly stepped it right up to elite again. And paying $11.5m for any player's 33 to 36 yr old seasons still seems a bit crazy to me even with his bounceback.

I still think that trade will take awhile. That's a massive cap hit for 4 years for him with the cap again barely going up. Sharks will not get much for him.

Would you trade Rielly for Karlsson?
Reilly has a full NMC. Players don't sign NMC's with the intention of immediately waving them.
The Leafs currently only have 7 forwards ( 8 if you count the glass man Robertson). Getting more forwards signed would be the more urgent need.

And San Jose, despite the warm weather ass kissing teams like them get, won't be a coveted place to go to. That's one bad team looking at a long ass rebuild.
