The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

Matthews basically played this year with one wrist, couldn't shoot, was still the best two way center in the game and scored 40 goals. I'm not really worried about his aging. The floor is really high.
 
Regarding term—Auston’s last deal is the one we really wanted to be eight years. When Auston only took 5 years while also demanding a max-term AAV on his contract, he was screwing the Leafs over, IMO.

For this contract though—if he only wants him and his bum wrist and other various injuries to get locked up for big money until age 31 instead of age 34, I’m fine with that.

As long as it is at least a five year deal though. If he wants only two or three years so he can position himself to give the Leafs a fresh corn-holing every time the cap jumps, he can fuck right off.

Yeah, I won't be pleased with 3 years, not necessarily because I think he'll leave or hold us up after, but fuck him for creating the narrative in the media and among the haters that he would.

I'm totally fine with 5 years for him.

For Marner and Willy however, I would insist on 6-8. We should try to never have to negotiate with these guys in the same year again. If Matty gets 5 then Willy should get 7 or 8, and then next summer I push Marner for 7 so that they're all staggered.

I think 5 years is a dumb move by him to be honest.
 
Yeah he was Shanny's guy if Babcock didn't come. And Tre probably likes him too.

This is a very very offensive team with some defensive question marks so I'm not quite sure Boucher would be much of a fit as head coach; I much prefer a coach that plays to the teams strengths. But on the other hand he could help reign them in a bit too.
