The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

They did it to Lupul against his will.

They guy literally hasn't been healthy, or been able to string more than 10-15 games together in 4 years. He's done.

Not exactly.

Seems pretty clear to me that what they told Lupul is that he could collect the $5M that was still owed to him by sitting and home and keeping his mouth shut, or by spending every day from September to April reporting for duty to the Marlies and riding the bus with them.

Otherwise if Lupul really wanted to play he could’ve forced the issue. Like he briefly did on social media before releasing a grovelling retraction the next day.

Pathetic and clear cut cap circumvention. Murray was and is healthy but it’s his childhood favourite team and it’s super close to home. Doesn’t want to leave and this is how he tries to help them. Muzzin is legit but this a joke

Player with mushy head who hasn't been able to get healthy for 4-5 years goes on LTIR and this is your take?

Treliving certainly didn't act as though he were worried about Murray's fate, so I suspect this has been decided for a while. A lot of people were awfully sure the Leafs were going to trade a 1st to get rid of the deal.

it was fun to see them make up arguments to convince themselves tho.

there was one about "they had to trade him before draft day" or something that was just totally made up but everyone used to 'prove' that the leafs were screwed.

Treebitch has walked the cap line as nicely as Dubas did thus far. Only blunder is Reaves potentially costing them Timmins or Jarnkrok but if it's an aging Jarny, maybe that's for the best anyway.

TLDR: Pridham probably deserved much of the credit that Dubas got.

It is crystal clear cap circumvention in my books, but HabFan’s temper tantrum about it is still hilarious, considering what teams like Tampa & Vegas have been allowed to get away with in recent years.

But of course, there plenty of people who think the Leafs are the only team the league should come down on like a ton of bricks about this shit.

I think Timmins walks the plank, and probably for little if any return.

Unless we carry 7 d-men (or trade another D).

You're comparing them to teams that actually planned to bring those players back for the playoffs. Legit cheating the cap. Leafs arent doing that.

All that being said, we still need to lose one of Timmins or Jarnkrok to make it under the cap.
I don't think we've seen any Tre trade so far, right?

I have to believe he's working on one so that he doesn't just give a guy away for next to nothing. We're in a classic situation where we need to turn 2-3 guys into 1 better guy. The candidates are obvious. And I'm still confident he's not looking to move anyone major like Willy.
