The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

Did you know God spelled backwards is dog?

Maybe they are our overlords. We clean them, feed them, pick up after them, I think they're really in charge.

watching Seinfeld re-runs this afternoon?

I don't think anyone is expecting Dubas to leave voluntarily, of course he's still at work.

I guess I'm the only one who sees this as a positive....

1) If Dubas stays, he's clearly been fucking rattled by this and the reflection should help. He went way off track from the original plan and turned this into a poorly constructed group of grinders that need to be dragged by 5 offensively talented players to any sort of success. Definitely left the door open to firing Sheldon, which is a necessity imo. Something something full evaluation.

2) If he goes, I trust Shanny to stick to similar principles that saw him get punted out of the league office and saw him hire a 29 yr old assistant GM in the first place. There are a number of smart assistant GM's out there who would be coming in with a clean cap structure, a decent prospect pool, and a set of cold eyes to evaluate the roster with. I completely understand the "what if it's worse?" concern...but also, what if it's better? The organization simply hasn't done a whole lot to earn this level of trepidation about significant changes to it's decision making group.

I'll be real, my concern is that they're both gone. This isn't a summer for decision making paralysis by jamming a search for President in with a search for a GM and I don't see anyone out there I'm comfy with in the dual role, nor do I trust the board to not replace Shanny with an idiot. I think we got very fortunate with Shanny.

Well... If he does stay I'm even more confident now that he's going to heavily explore trading Marner. And maybe even politely ask Tavares to gtfo. Maybe. But I think we all know who is more likely to return franchise-altering value. So I think it has to be Mitch, if anyone.

There is something to be said for being able to go to the store with your family without some idiot yelling at you about what your team did or didnt do.

Might be a much easier life for them all to run a team where hockey is the 19th most popular sport

well, yeah...it's not negative if you're ready for a post Dubas world

What made this especially downbeat for me is you rarely see a GM be so resigned. He sounded just like a fan the day after a big loss

I just felt sad for him as a human. I don't hate the guy. I don't like seeing people so mentally broken down tho. It's sad.

If it makes you feel better, he just made a few lifetimes worth of money and can move back to the Sault and be the GM of the mud ducks or isotopes or whatever the fuck they're called for the next 40 years.

I'm glad that he cares, but I'd rather he had been a bit smarter and cared a bit less.
