The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

I believe him that the stress on his family life was a big factor, because that's just the truth about this market, but i don't think Dubas said anything to make it seem like his wife was literally about to leave him or anything that dramatic. I think the thing he said that was actually the clearest and truest was his kids getting shit on at school. That's awful and i'm 100% it's true.

The only thing about the contract that might be relevant is that there was a last minute change that was apparently out of line with their previous weeks worth of discussions, which would be a little insulting. I don't know how much mlse cares about a mil or two to an exec. Was it intended to be rejected? I'm not sure why he'd bother with that kind of tactic. Why not just say "I'm out"? I dunno that it makes any difference anyways just seems like fun storytime to me.
yeah okay I could believe all of this. food for thought.

This all seems really reasonable. You're right that it's all kind of besides the point anyway.

Dude really?

Controversial? It's their livelihood. I always thought of employees families and livelihood. You have to balance bottom line and HR.

A business fails and 20 families are affected and it's wrong to ensure viability? You need to look at this from more than one lens man.
I was trying to agree with you...

I mean you admitted you would not keep someone on if you were concerned that they were no longer committed and wanted to be there...

I'm not sure what we're disagreeing on here...

The greedy boss is as annoying as the Leafs can't win in the playoffs. Get it?

So where did the "family stress" come from? I'll wait.

I see. But you know Kyle and Shanny enough to opine?

And you already stated your opinion earlier that it likely didn't have anything to do with the wife. Was that from not knowing her?

I'm not trying to be a dick, it's the hypocrisy that triggers my mind. It doesn't add up.

I really don't want to go down this road with you because it feels like this is very personal for you.

I never said it didn't have anything to do with the wife but I'm uncomfortable speculating about her "submissiveness" and think we're taking it too far by assuming she threatened to leave him and take the kids based on very little information. It feels very icky.

my words were "care more about the success of their business than any one individual employee", which you more or less endorsed in your reply. I didn't say why.

you read greed into it.

Because it is icky.

Welcome to life.

Two options for me:

1) he hid behind his family to get out after trying to get more. If so he's a scumbag that buckled.

2) the marital relationship was in severe enough shape that he had no choice. Now after 30 years of marriage I can tell you couples fight about stuff but work it out usually for the kids sake. This was not small stress on him. If he was completely calm I would think differently. He was freaked and contrite and I will agree that it was stupid to do a presser.

That's fine, we don't have to go down the road but know I will respond every time you slide something in about not believing the wife had anything to do with it.

Careful. WDP might not have your back on this one...
I'm sorry, did I give the impression that I needed someone to support it? The fact someone I respect thinks it's a possibility is nice and all but I'm ok on my own if need be.

I actually respect you too worm relax. Only a few that I have no time for except to berate.
