The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

There’s also the fact that for the non hip-hop set there are not too many pop stars making waves

I mean, the highest selling rock bands in order are The Beatles, Queen, Zepplin, & Floyd....we're off to a pretty good start.

Highest selling rappers are Em, Drake, Kanye, Jay Z, Wayne... not perfect, but a pretty pretty good list.

Pop: Elvis, Mike, Elton John, Madonna, Rihanna, Beyonce, Mariah, Swift, Whitney

I mean, other than a few names in there, it's hard to argue that the majority don't have projects that are extremely artistically relevant in their genres.
Tina Turner has to be on that list.

Alright, just back from a week in Muskoka. Daughter was participating in a synchro swimming camp in Bracebridge, and dad got to kick back.

Got to get my Harvey's fix, and do a little wandering around. Found a copy of Domi's book in a thriftbox and picked it up for 50 cents (ironically the most I would have paid for this book). I was hoping for some juicy stories about some of my favourite Leafs teams - but honestly not much there.

Some stuff I didn't know though, here you go - COLES NOTES:

Domi is convinced that his greatest asset is his pain threshold
He learned how to be a leader from Messier in NY
He ran the room all of his years in Toronto, to let Mats focus on being his best
He is great friends with Lemieux, whom he says offered him a 3 year deal in Pittsburgh before retirement
He was traded to Winnipeg after demanding a trade from Neil Smith, he asked that he just not be traded to Winnipeg
He always played with honour and respect - except for that one time.
He lost all of his money in 2008, and works as a business consultant today
He once intentionally knocked-out a drunk Belfour after carrying him to his hotel room
He's still pissed that many of his Leafs teammates attended an engagement party, instead of Belak's funeral
He busted his hand fighting Chris Neil in 2004, but delayed his surgery because he's a union guy
During the lock-out he put Tanenbaum/Lemieux/Daley/Linden/Saskin and himself in a room to negotiate and build a framework for a deal
If the union had agreed (at the time), there would have been a shortened season, a salary cap $10mil higher, and no roll-back
He never liked JFJ, and felt like Junior was trying to minimize Domi's influence on his teammates

Big time bummer. Because I doubt he would’ve traded any of the core to get him, and we would’ve had him for last year’s run and still now, likely heavily retained otherwise it wouldn’t have worked.

it didn’t work because of the small detail of retention

Karlsson at $10 mill is tough to fit in our cap.

We could have done it instead of our entire offeason (Bertuzzi, Domi, Klingberg, Reaves and Kampf), and have $5 million to sign a two top 9 wingers, and a 3rd line center.

Stuff like that is doable for us only if you knock your drafting out of the park.

We have not for various reasons, so yeah, there's no cap room for another league leading salary
