But we still don't know the details. Maybe teams were looking for 50%, and so yeah, they don't want all that cap tied up (but maybe 30%...). And maybe what they were offering for that kind of retention was junk. There are still a bunch of variables.

Yeah, I mean there were probably what, maybe, if SJ was lucky, 1-2 other teams kicking the tires with some actual interest.

If another team actually went hard after him with a package that included prospects and only asking for partial retention (rather than full), I don't know that Pittsburgh ends up getting this deal.

They are rebuilding that cap hit makes no difference for 4 years with the bad contracts he already has
