There was a lot of noise about it this year, very vocalized relative to past years. I'm somewhat optimistic they address it a bit.

The league obviously shouldn't allow what Tampa pulled with the cap this year. But under the league's current rules, it is allowed. Blame the league, not Tampa. Every time Dubas and Pridham creatively use a cap loophole, we applaud them, after all.
Whatever the cool kids call it these days. That's really a lame term.

I get that it's pretty much cap circumvention in spirit but I think I'm with LeafGM that I'd have absolutely zero issues with my team doing it if it worked out.
I'm not entirely sure you see it repeated as blatantly going forward since the team still has to go the entire regular season without that player and it worked out a bit better timeline-wise with the shortened season.

The thing about it that is most remarkable for me is that Kucherov didn't play a regular season game and yet was still ready to go for the playoffs and as on his game as ever. Fucking impressive.

Dubas also went over and above the cap with the LTIR/playoff loophole by adding an injured Riley Nash and re-activating him for the playoffs. So in summary...Tampa used their cheater cap space on Nikita Kucherov, and the Leafs used theirs on Frederik Andersen and Riley Nash.
Maybe that's the correct thing for Leaf fans to complain about?
