Dubas also went over and above the cap with the LTIR/playoff loophole by adding an injured Riley Nash and re-activating him for the playoffs. So in summary...Tampa used their cheater cap space on Nikita Kucherov, and the Leafs used theirs on Frederik Andersen and Riley Nash.
Maybe that's the correct thing for Leaf fans to complain about?
All of the year. But then ready for Game 1 coincidentally!the Kuch thing was a pretty unique setup
it would be like Auston missing most of the year with his wrist
It helps that he was probably working out at 100% for well over a month... but couldn't play due to cap circumvention. The thing about it that is most remarkable for me is that Kucherov didn't play a regular season game and yet was still ready to go for the playoffs and as on his game as ever. Fucking impressive.
And the only reason that happened was because CBJ failed to get insurance on Horton's contract. The only thing that saved the Leafs from the David Clarkson contract was the Nathan Horton contract, and somehow it was a cap benefit to the team to have both on the books once both players were completely broken and unable to play.
The NHL cap needs fixing.
Heh...two-time Stanley Cup champions Luke Schenn and Curtis McElhinney.
For sure, but the fact that he was able to compete at top speed and in synch in every regard, looking like he'd played all season, was quite impressive. Normally a guy would need a month to get into top gear.It helps that he was probably working out at 100% for well over a month... but couldn't play due to cap circumvention.
Looked refreshed. Like he hadn't been banged up all season. For sure, but the fact that he was able to compete at top speed and in synch in every regard, looking like he'd played all season, was quite impressive. Normally a guy would need a month to get into top gear.

Oh, they're awesome and you have to have the ability to get the players. You have to be a pretty awesome team in the first place for that scenario to work out for you I'd say.
The thought briefly crossed my mind that a team could do that with say, Eichel, and let him get that surgery. But then they'd have to pay a huge price to acquire him and have him sit all year. Not sure we see that repeated.
Re: Kuch
Dubas and Bergevin would have done the same. If not, we’d be angry.
