The Motherfucking 2021 Season Thread

60% chance he plays for team canada.

Is this team better for the next 4/5 years with hyman at 3.8 or with a replacement?

His money will be mostly paid by years 6/7/8 and can be traded to or retire.

well Robertson has to play somewhere next year, for one. they've signed Amirov as well, so obviously he's in the plans within the timeframe you mention as well.

Hyman is a decent player but the type of contract you mention is an unnecessary investment.

We can either let him walk and try and find a hyman like replacement every deadline for a 1st + prospect or we find a contract thay works. 3.8x8 IMO is better than a 5x5 deal

Zeke did a pretty good job of laying out that we can give Hyman a higher cap hit than that without much pain. It'd still be a bit less than he could get in free agency but think I prefer that route.

The problem is this masks the fact that the Habs have 3x as many loser points as the other teams and are actually a sub-500 team.

I think the “loser” point goes to the team that wins the OT skill competition

doubt the Habs will lose 90% of their OT games come playoff time

What you see as a problem I see as the Habs losing only 8 games in 33 in regulation, or 5 on 5. Guess what they don't have in the playoffs?

Yeah a team with a surplus of "loser points" tells me they're unlucky or simply suck at skills competitions. It also tells me their record probably doesn't tell you how good they actually are.

There was a period when the leafs were the kings of loser points because they sucked balls at shootouts. I didn't see that as a bad thing.

Glass half full I guess. The team has won fewer than 50% of their games. Sure you can dismiss 3 on 3 as a skills comp, but you lost 9 of those in a row. I’m not giving the Habs credit or benefit of the doubt for that.

3 points for a reg win
2 for a OT/SO win
1 for a OT/SO loss

Will never happen because the NHL may lose some of that parity they covet. But it would make for some mucho better trade deadlines at least.

they earned that point tho (for a 60 minute draw) — that’s the point you have no problem denying, calling it a loser point
