I think goalies are very much in the "what have you done for me lately"category ....GMs tend to sell low and buy high on them so if Freddie stays at .900, the best he'll do is a "prove it to us" contract.

There's no shortage of reclaimation projects at the goalie position. With not that many job openings.

Not sure I fully agree with that. Anytime those articles come out where anonymous executives speak out about topics their opinion on the Leafs was always something to the tune of: brutal defense, Andersen hides a lot of their flaws. In some years, during some stretches it wasn't necessarily completely untrue. But I do disagree that he's seen as just a guy outside of Toronto. Before this year he was a consensus top 10 guy by most.

In Toronto we've certainly lived it. The media often helps shape league-wide opinions on certain players or teams.

maybe in the past, you were right....but recency bias is erasing whatever positive hype he had.

media = mostly a bunch of copycats...once the selling starts, it just steamrolls.

anecdotally...and small sample size...I read local sites in Montreal (Habs) and Minnesota (because of Vikings but I read the Wild stuff) and Anderson just isn't mentioned at all when league wide goaltending is discussed

Well yeah, I wasn't speaking about this season. Point is more that the media has driven league-wide perception on certain players plenty of times in big market teams across all sports. Especially in hockey when the executives don't have an original thought in their head. It likely has a similar impact as a Vezina trophy and cup did on Holtby.

Yeah, he was definitely getting at least a 5 year deal. I don't know if he cost himself much in AAV, but he definitely lost term. I think if the season ended today he gets a Holtby kind of deal. 2 years, 7.5-8 million.
