The Motherfucking 2021 Season Thread

Rielly just turned 27 a month ago and his contract is up after next season, so he'll be in the exact same age bracket as John Tavares was when he signed him. 28 years old for year #1 of his contract.

So I don't think age or giving out term is something Dubas is going to be scared off by. Seven years would take Rielly through to 34 years old. We just signed TJ Brodie until he's 33, and Jake Muzzin until he's 35.

As far as his AAV goes, I feel like it'll be somewhere between Torey Krug and Jared Spurgeon.

Ideally I’d like it to be 6 years, my guess is it will be more like 7-8 because the cap hit would be too much on 6 years. I love Rielly but I really don’t think his deal is going to age well.

These are the other dmen who will be up for renewal, along with Reilly.
I see Jones and maybe Pulock getting similar contracts to Reilly in terms of cost.
He (Reilly) gave a hometown discount on his last contract, and I don't think he is going to do that again.
I think Reilly gets closer to 9 if not 9.

I also just noticed that Rask is a free agent at the end of this season.
Maybe he would make a good combo with Campbell in the net? If not, maybe bring Reimer back for another go with the leafs?
Watch Anderson go nuclear when he gets back and the Leafs end up signing him again to a 5-year contract ..... lol.

Recent comparables:

AP: 7yrs x 8.8
Krug: 7yrs x 6.5
Josi: 8yrs x 9.05
Carlson: 8yrs x 8
OEL: 8yrs x 8.25
Chabot: 8yrs x 8
Trouba: 7yrs x 8
Spurgeon: 7yrs x 7.575

Paid. Rielly is going to get paid.

I'm hoping for the Carlson deal.
I think you are correct, but I think Reilly gets 8 at the floor minimum.
Defensively average, but offensively he is good .... It's very good.
I'm more worried about Edmonton and the Canucks going hard after him and offering crazy money.
Would morgan be worth 9 million to the leafs?

Finally (lol), let Brooks play, let Sandin play. Sit Engvall (he does nothing for me) and see if Brooks can slide in comfortably on the fourth line.
The Leafs have a playoff spot locked up, so give Sandin and Lilly some reps on the roster and let brooks have 5 games to see how he does.
IMHO, the further Engvall is from the ice the better chance the Leafs have of succeeding.

Rielly's got 2yrs in a row now of lackluster offensive numbers and he also is the victim of Lifelong Leafs Dman syndrome which means his warts are permanently hugely overblown. He's not getting near what Pietro got.

These guys will all need to understand that if they want to play on a stacked team that they've bonded with over the years, they can't demand top dollar. If there was no cap, go for it. But if you want to play on the same team as Matty, Tavares, Marner, and Nylander, you'll need to leave some money on the table.
