The New Division

"Now", meaning starting this year. Within the next 2-3 years is their best shot. I wouldn't rely on Spezza and his wonky back being a PPG player into his mid to late 30's.

Hey, i'm not the one defending Melnyk.

You seem fine with the fact he's putting your team at a disadvantage.

Let me know when the team is ready to "contend"
Sorry for not taking your more seriously - but the Leafs 7-year rebuild with high payrolls makes me think you don't really get what it is to be a NHL team that isn't a top-5 earner.

Bridge years are just that - bridge years.

The Sens will have one of the smallest payrolls in the NHL this year.

Teams like Nashville, Carolina, Winnipeg, Phoenix will spend more.

If you're fine with that, Melnyk has done a great spin job.

Why wouldn't we be fine with it? We lost Alfredsson and a massively overhyped Silfverberg, and added Bobby Ryan + Clarke MacArthur.

Our team got better. We have a ton of young guys on the way...who knows what Pageau, Zibanejad and Conacher will do this coming season.

We are absolutely stacked down the middle, we have two excellent goalies, we have a Norris winner anchoring our D and O.

We are fine.

Because you'd be even better if you spent that extra 10M on more players.

Instead, that money goes into ownership pockets.

Absolutely stacked down the middle? Are you referring to the presence of the all-mighty Kyle Turris? Not sure if there is much talent after Spezza to warrant that kind of hyperbole. And who are these "ton of young guys" you are referring to? Your goaltending is likely set for a while but banking on Karlsson to repeat his performance in 2011 is probably a bit silly. Sure would help to have an owner willing to spend to have his team take the next step. Guess he is content with the Sens being a hard-working feel-good story team for the next 5-6 years.

Any team repping Tyler Bozak as their #1 centre doesn't get to comment on other teams strength down the middle.
