to be dicks I suppose, because they know Edmonton wants him.. but how is that going to reasonably stretch beyond the team's season ending. they're really going to pay the guy to sit at home instead of going somewhere else? maybe I'm missing something here but I don't get it.

I could see an argument that Toronto is it's own beast and that's why you need experience, that makes a little more sense logic wise to me.

It seems very dumb and honestly if it wasnt part of a Friedman blog not ever worth discussing, but Elliot deserves th benefit of the doubt for honest reporting
 
If i was betting, i would lean on it being a name that literally has not been mentioned yet, or maybe at best in passing.

I really dont get Roy, and can only squint at Laviolette ( frankly, i would think he'd prefer EDM/LA).

I really think they took that "can't predict the future" quote, which was fairly obviously in reference to not knowing who the GM etc is, and ran with it.

with 2 years left on his deal, most of us here were pretty sure that, yeah, he was in fact turning up at camp this season

also, why the hell would Chayka start off with "everyone but Matthews is available" if he wasn't 100% sold on Matthews being here in the future?? it would make no sense
