The most bizarre part seems like the compete part to me.

You have to remember, in their eyes "compete" = chasing the puck with their arm/legs moving real fast, and digging hard in the corners. They have no frame of reference for elite IQ players who are trying to be where the puck is going and not where it is.
Nylander, Panarin, Kucherov, etc, etc have all eaten miles of shit their entire careers for similar, he's trying to be where the puck is going, not where it is.
Whenever anyone asks a direct question about McKenna's willingness to play defence, back check, etc all of a sudden compete isn't the issue, he's a very willing defensive player, etc. Well then if you have a player who isn't lazy in the defensive end, and piles up mounds of points on the offensive end...compete isn't the issue, the analyzers ability to recognize what he's seeing is.

Jesus, Pronman is such a fucking loser.
I never bothered reading even a pirated copy of his draft ranking article, so I didn’t even realize he has three defenseman ranked ahead of McKenna. When I saw he had Reid at #1, I just assumed he had McKenna at #2.
Again—what a fucking loser. Don’t know why anyone would pay for this guy’s slop.
