The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

He's definitely a tier 1 guy. He will be a regular 35-40 goal threat, with big time physicality, and on a sweetheart deal for years to come.

It's about taking advantage of a guy that is likely overvalued around the league and targeting a player that plays a more important position that is undervalued around the league. Use your resources, use your edge to identify the player and hope their GM is dumb enough to love Knies and hate his #1d. Has to be a perfect storm to work out, but you obviously must explore it.

Moving Kniews would hurt but we’d still have McKenna, Cowan, Robertson, Maccelli that can play the left side. Domi too if he comes back.

Def another move where you’re moving from a position of depth. A true top pair dman would be awesome. Haven’t had one in how long?

It's literally the exact situation LoF wants us to exploit, Knies just makes his dick tingle though.

Fletch traded Wendel after his 9th season, in a year where he scored 46 goals after not once cracking 20 in the prior 6 seasons. He had already proven himself to be very injury prone, played a style that guaranteed it would only get worse, and was a winger. He traded the broken winger just coming off his best season by a mile for a budding superstar center 5-6 years younger basically just starting his career.

That's the kind of deal you make any time the opportunity arises. Older damaged goods for brand new model off the lot.

In a Knies for Werenski deal, we'd be the Nords trading Sundin off for the guy with some injury history and a couple of great years just completed who is 5-6 years older at 29. Don't get me wrong, I love Werenski, but I don't want to trade the young, strong kid just scratching the surface of his abilities for him. I would infinitely rather keep Knies and pay some money to Raddysh/Andersson.

No, when you trade from excess, you don't trade the best of your excess. You trade the worst of it.

You have Knies, McKenna, Cowan, Robertson, Maccelli all on the left side. You look to deal Maccelli first for whatever the best asset you can get might be, then maybe move on to Robertson unless he or Cowan will play the right side, in which case, no need to move him. You use whatever the Maccelli return is to package with something else to get something better than both, and so on.

If you arent interested in trading almost any winger for Werenski, you're missing a chrome or two.

I'd move Knies for either Werenski or Fox, not sure if there are any other realistic ones.

Josi is a harder one to do cause of age.
