The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

Bob said he wanted the marchand deal...longer term to get the max money...and he feels betrayed.
It is about money for him. So sign him for 6x4 or 4x 6 to give him 24 million in two years up front and having a 6 or 4 million dollar goalie mentor your future in a cap of 113 or whatever it is.

That's a bargain.

The panthers shucked last year because of one guys injury Barkov.

He's going to have a better team this year on the leafs and even if he gives you league average....hell give you 50 games with his eyes closed and teach hildeby and AA hoe to train
A couple of things:

35+ rule:

Revised Rules for 35+ Contracts

The rules for 35+ contracts changed in the 2020 CBA MOU. Now, a contract is not considered "35+" if:
-total compensation either stays the same or increases from one year to the subsequent year
-there are no signing bonuses after Year 1

If those criteria are met, the contract is not considered 35+, and therefore the usual contract rules around burying and buyouts apply. If that criteria is not met, it is considered a "35+" contract (if the player turned 35 by June 30), and therefore:
-If the contract is bought out, the original cap hit each year still remains (no cap hit relief from a buyout)
-If the player is sent down, the cap hit is only reduced by $100,000

Second: You want to carry 3 goalies? Because Hildeby can't be sent down without going through waivers

Retire after year 2 and the whole cap hit comes off....same with Tanev.

Chayka won't have a problem doing what's best for the club and using robidas Island....but he won't have to cuz thw cap is going through the roof.

Team Bob for sure
The cap hit doesn’t come off if the player is 35 or older.

that has got to be the agent trying to set up a 4 x 7m deal as reasonable, but it's fucking not. There have been some great old goalie seasons, it's not impossible, just seems like a really stupid risk to take.

How do you negotiate that?

“My client is 38 and is coming off a subpar season. Pay him.”

Upside: Healthy, consistently raises his game bigly come playoffs, worst year last year more average than bad.

Downside: Old, usually only decent not great in season

I wonder if they go after Carlson or Andersson.
They just have so much cap space and he said he’ll take a couple be big swings

Just don’t think that’s Marchment and Jenner.
