The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

Net Rating /82 - last year only

McMann 1.1 --> McKenna ---

Maccelli 0.1 --> Roslovic -1.4
Joshua -3.0 --> Joshua -3.0
Laughton -3.8 --> Blueger -6.7

Robertson -4.9 --> Duhaime -7.3
Lorentz -5.9 --> Sissons -8.0
Domi -8.7 --> Paul -9.4

Jarnkrok -12.4 --> Lorentz -5.9

The bad thing about this collection of oddball bottom sixers is that while they’re all signed for only 2-3 years max, not one of the existing or new guys has only one year left. Meaning zero guys who are pending free agents. Meaning that unless we trade off guys we just signed (or Joshua or Lorentz, who seem like goners before opening night), this is our bottom six not just for this season, but next season too.

If Paul is good in a tough 3c role, this is all fixed. Am I being a dumb homer for even sort of hoping for that tho?

If Ottawa is out, and he played for them for dirt cheap, I’m surprised we’re not an easy second choice given the proximity and his known desire to be close. Based on our signings, he should get $10m, so I don’t know how he gets priced in. Is he looking for the same $2m and somehow everyone is lowballing him or is he trying to get full value from any other team because he has to leave home?

If i combine the preseason projected doms with the actual doms...

McKenna ---
Roslovic -1.4

Paul -5.3
Cowan -2.3
Joshua -5.1

Sissons -7.8
Blueger -7.3
Duhaime -7.3

Lorentz -7.6

Which looks more like an average 3rd line and average 4th line, but tailored to play a certain way at least.

I did listen to the elliotte thing and I think that tweet was misleading. He didn't say that giroux is likely to sign with the leafs. He said leafs offered the most but he really wants to go to philly and is waiting to see if any team is gonna do enough to change his mind.

So that's probably unlikely unless Chayka blows his load with cap space he no longer has.

I’d expect Chaykes to be shopping Joshua hard then, to free up a bit more. Or maybe he already has a deal ready but the savings isn’t enough to pay Giroux what he wants.

Maybe the price was too high, hence it falling apart because Utah wants more. And Chaykes probably didn’t want to offer sheet anyone after being back in the league for five minutes.

So these are the two year stats. The two-year Net Rating is actually Dom's preseason projections from last year + the net rating for the season from hockeystatscards.com (which even though it's dom's stats i'm not sure is exactly the same), paced out to 82gms. A number of players didn't get any preseason projection (Roslovic, Andrae, and most of the extras, so it's just this year's net rating paced to 82gms).

I had a hard time ordering the dmen because of the wide difference in TOI% and net rating, so i just kinda hacked it into my best guess at the hierarchy.
