The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

No franchise needed the marketability more than us, with where the state of the brand stood after this season. We were all checked out and suicidal waiting for Boston to get the pick. No other team in the top 5 would’ve lost their pick by having a team behind them win the lottery. The biggest winner of the day was the Leafs and the biggest loser was the Bruins. The Canucks and Flames just dropped back a couple slots.

These guys act like, oh the Leafs, horseshoe up their asses, get lucky all the time. We’ve advanced past the first round twice in this era, won the lottery once (and only once ever held first overall before that), and…that’s it till this week.

In addition to Dreger being an open Leaf hater for years, TSN is salty because Rogers is starting to exert exclusive media coverage of the team now they they own everything.

So who knows maybe starting next season we get homer national broadcasts and our very own Gene Principe.

Dreger probably helps Paul “Patti” Marner with his posts

Conor mcdavid was at a point where he could sign an extension. There was an option to sign an extension or wait until free agency to make that decision.

Matthews is a year out from that.

What options is he considering?

Even there though it's being framed differently than it's being framed here. I mean, we all knew that Auston wasn't happy with how the season went and wanted to see changes. If the plan was to take a step back for a few years, get younger and try to grow into contention again he probably wouldn't be down for that plan. He said some of this shit himself at the end of the year in different words.

He wants to compete now. Not in 2-3 years. If the organization tells him that's the plan, he'll give it this season to see where it goes.

This is where I’m still just not buying any of this talk. The only two “options” he has are to report to camp in the fall or demand a trade.

And it just seems inconceivable to me that he’d be demanding a trade after one single down year and one year out from when he’s eligible to sign an extension and actually needs to decide on his future here.
