If someone has convinced themselves based on the media fanfics that Auston wants out, and with only two years left on his deal---I can at least somewhat understand the impulse to want to trade Matthews, even if I disagree with it.
But...Nylander? Perennial 30-40 goal, 80-90 point player, only just turned 30 & locked up for six more seasons, consistently the best playoff performer in any version of this team's "core" over the past decade...but the same dummy fans who've wanted him traded all along still want him gone even now, eh?

McDavid annoyed me to the point of almost disliking him for signing that stupid extension. What was the rush?
Right now he'd be perfectly situated to say that the team just wasn't good enough and he's not getting any younger and has earned the right to play somewhere else. Instead he has to play along with that charade over there for two more seasons where there's little doubt they're not winning anything.

If you want to add something to this lineup, you have to subtract the caphits of whichever guy you're replacing, so there's actually more capsapce than that.
We would free up an additional $10+m by ditching Domi, Joshua, and Carlo, and beat around $25m in capsapce with 3 spots to fill.
